Apprentice Learning Support Assistant Level 3

Job at East Riding of Yorkshire Council in Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire

The job itself

Required as soon as possible, we are seeking an Apprentice Learning Support Assistant Level 2 to work at Riverside Special School. This post provides an opportunity to undertake an Intermediate (Level 3) apprenticeship framework in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.

You will be working with a dedicated team to help support pupils to access teaching and learning. The role may involve working closely with children in Years FS through to Year 14 (our current cohort).

Riverside School is an over-subscribed community day special school, which caters for children aged 2 - 19 years. The school recently moved into a new two storey extension alongside the refurbishment of the original building, including the addition of two new classrooms. This gives the school the capacity to increase the age range of the school in line with the East Riding’s Common Offer in special schools. The school’s designation has also changed to be more embracing of all special educational needs. In addition to this building work, the school is developing a range of outdoor facilities to enhance pupils’ learning further. We now have a fabulous site on which we meet the needs of our children.

The ideal person will be willing to work with children within a school environment, be able to demonstrate the competencies detailed in the person specification. Applications are welcome from those who have attained the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools qualification or equivalent and seek to tackle a rigorous Level 3 qualification within a year. Only those who have attained Level 2 to a good standard in both practical and study elements will be considered. You will therefore need to be good at time management in order to balance study time and working in school.

Applications are welcome from everyone, irrespective of age, but especially from people in the under 25 group. The school is also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and the appointment will be subject to the school obtaining a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. References will be taken up before any interview is undertaken.

Applicants are strongly advised to contact the school and arrange a pre interview visit.
