Job Title: Business Process Management (BPM) – Practitioner

Salary: £30,294 to £32,552 plus a Location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £30,294 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £32,552 will be via incremental progression.

Business Process Management (BPM) – Practitioner

Business Process Management (BPM) is a new function within the MPS and this role forms part of the creation of a new permanent BPM team. The home office location is Marlowe House although projects can be based at any MPS site, agile working is offered.

The BPM team supports the business to understand and design their processes in the most efficient way possible. We use a tool called Signavio that allows the business to:

Model and store processesCollaborate on processes and communicate changeConduct cost and resource analysisBuild a business case for changeDiscover and implement improvementSupport automation projects.

Job Purpose

The BPM Practitioner is responsible for supporting the overall process management lifecycle at Met Police.The BPM Practitioner will be responsible for defining, analysing, standardising, improving and implementing the processes produced within a value stream.The BPM Practitioner works with operational colleagues, project teams and third party suppliers to translate business requirements and identify potential improvementsThe BPM Practitioner provides support to the BPM user base with Quality Assurance, Knowledge Sharing, Training and ‘How To’ capabilities and solution options that can be delivered by the BPM Team.

Internal communication and working relationships

Internal

Work with business stakeholders to understand their business needs through virtual or face-to-face meetings, facilitated workshops and ad hoc engagement.Work in a cross-functional team in the initiation and development stage of specific value streams, programmes and /or work packages including day-to-day meetings, workshops and progress meetings.Work with dedicated SMEs in the identification and refinement of business requirements.Work with the BPM Team Leader to provide updates/progress on work packages and escalation of any risks and issues.

External

Work with and provide direction to third party suppliers of solutions within the scope of projects responsibilities.

Key Result Areas

Accountable for analysing customer requests; translating requests into business improvement capabilities, objectives and solutions.Consults with relevant stakeholders to ensure clarity of objectives, drivers and success criteriaWorking with stakeholders/business users to coordinate and prepare the following artefacts with support as required: business requirement documents, business benefits, user stories, use cases, functional work packages and designs. Ensure requirements are appropriately implemented within the solution.Define the existing (as-is) processes, lead the design of new (to-be) processes using Business Process Model (BPM), identify and quantify any gaps; develop recommendations for business improvements.Identifies alternative solutions to exploit new technologies and automation.Assesses the feasibility of business process changes and recommends new approaches.Manages the execution of business process improvements.Selects, tailors and implements business process improvement methods and tools at programme, project and team level in line with agreed standards.Contributes to the definition of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for business process improvement.Supports the BPM Team Leader in prioritising process improvement projects.Assist in preparation for and facilitation of working groups and stakeholder meetings.Lead workshops to discover, understand, model and maintain business processes on Signavio ensuring the repository’s consistency and integrity.Support the organisation across the Process lifecycle from design to implementation and monitoring.Proactively drive the process discovery, mining, standardisation of value streams and identification of process improvement opportunities.Actively promotes new ways of working that drive agility, speed, and design-thinking.

Knowledge

Knowledge of industry standards of process management, process improvement and process transformation. Is able to apply the knowledge effectively in unfamiliar situations.In-depth knowledge of a broad range of leading practice business process modelling techniquesGood knowledge of the key business stakeholders.Good understanding of the MPS vision and digital strategy.Knowledge and understanding of risk management, impact assessments and quality assurance.Knowledge in the IT Services industry and strong familiarity with quality management concepts and their application in the Digital context.Knowledge of, and strong ability in, ICT applications such as Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint Visio).An understanding of the use of BOX in creating folder structures, files, storing documentation and gate keeping permitted access.Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

Facilitates collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectivesAnalysis skills: able to analyse a range of information sources, resolve potentially conflicting information and simplify difficult situations, models and issues to create coherent and structured actions that add value for the client/end user. Selects appropriately from applicable standards, methods, tools and applications.Communication skills: excellent communication, problem solving, analytical and relationship management skills. Is articulate when delivering presentations and during discussions with management. Can present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiencesReport writing: able to write articulated structured and succinct professional documents.Facilitation: able to prepare and lead meetings, challenge constructively and drive decision making, including engagement with third party suppliers.Capabilities: proven process modelling, analysis and improvement experience in one or More BPM Tools.

Experience

In-depth practical experience of Business Process Management & Analysis working to manage and deliver the demand/requirements of complex MPS process improvement initiatives and programmes.Practical experience in modelling Business Processes in the BPMN modelling notationBusiness Process Re-design.Business Process Improvement and Analysis in public sector environment using different methodologies.Working with and managing third party suppliers.
