Job Purpose: To undertake and successfully deliver CAD design drawings, ensuring full compliance with UKPN Services and client standards.

Although based in the Hampshire and Wiltshire area and principally working on Defence Projects the candidate will be expected to develop their skills and competencies to be able to work on any future projects within UKPN Services.

Dimensions:

No direct reports or financial budget.

Principal Accountabilities:

Produce design drawings to enable construction works to be delivered in a safe and efficient manner. Liaise with the delivery team and client to ensure effective project delivery. Maintain Network records and respond to third party queries in a timely manner. Ensuring compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Health and Safety policies. Compliance with UK Power Networks quality policies. Operate and update Asset database in respect of project activities. Ensuring the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities. Strong communication skills required at departmental, site & client level. The individual will be required to work with minimal supervision to manage and prioritise a varied work load and be an effective problem solver with the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

Main Duties:

Deliver CAD drawings to meet all project deadlines. Provide technical support as part of the team in order to deliver all planned works in addition to all Operations and Maintenance delivery requirements. Attend and contribute to team briefings, give feed-back where necessary. Identify potential project risks/opportunities (raise awareness within team / company). Proactively seeking continuous improvement. Required to work additional hours as required to meet project requirements. Liaise within the project team and communicate with external parties.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

An experienced CAD Designer, preferably with experience of AutoCAD 3D Map / AutoCAD civil. Experience operating within a utilities environment an advantage. Electrical networks experience and knowledge. Fundamental knowledge of all MS Office packages essential. Key tasks in the role include map layouts, map coordinates, schematics, general assemblies, details, civil construction, and data collation. All design work is undertaken in conjunction with other utilities, gas, water, sewer etc. Knowledge of NETMAP an advantage. Must have a clean driving licence. Medical, Drugs and Alcohol screening.

Success will be measured by the CAD Engineer’s understanding and management in the following areas:

Strong safety focus. Technical competence. Adherence to internal and external safety systems and quality systems. Customer satisfaction. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Commercial awareness.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
