The Role
As a Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary; as you’ll make a difference every day in managing existing contracts, undertaking negotiations, pricing activities and dynamic contractual risk assessments along with supporting tender and organic growth activities at every level to achieve our customer’s mission.
Day to day, you’ll be responsible for the commercial management of Babcock’s infrastructure delivery / programme of works under various contracts with the MoD such as a Qualifying Defence Contract (QDC); you will also be part of the wider Commercial Team with plenty of opportunities for development, learning and training, as well as continuing to build your professional network.
You could play a key role in the delivery of a range of critical projects across our various business sectors, supporting key customers in industries which include defence, marine, civil nuclear, emergency services and private sector training.
Lead / support negotiations with the Customer/Supplier on contractual issues where required. Lead / support development of new contractual documents including New Contracts, Supplier Contracts, Confidentiality Agreements, Teaming Agreements and Consultancy Agreements. Establishing and providing contract management and governance support to project teams.
Essential Experience of the Commercial Manager:
Demonstratable evidence of developing effective customer relationships and confident at negotiating independently within agreed delegations. Experience of managing and understanding contracts in matrix organisations, from across industry, however defence experience would be desirable but not essential. Commercial experience in robust management of large and complex contracts, bids and change; ideally, initiatives in a regulated environment. Knowledge of MoD contract terms is highly desirable. strategic commercial background in multi-disciplinary environments covering pre and post-contract activity. These roles can be delivered from multiple sites, across the UK, alongside home working arrangements.Qualifications for the Commercial Manager:
Ideally, be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business, Law, Accountancy but not essential. Relevant functional qualifications achieved, or would be willing to work towards, may include Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS), International Association for Contract and Commercial Management (IACCM) or Post Graduate Certificate in Commercial Management (PGCCM).The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate level of security clearance for these roles.
