Job Title: Deputy Director - MO11
Salary: £76,272 to £84,261 plus a Location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £76,272 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £84,261 will be via incremental progression.

This role will lead vital operational support services to Frontline Officers which in turn will enable them to police London to the best of their ability to keep the public safe. The role will sit within Met Operations and there will be 4 service areas (Fleet, VRES, Enabling Services & Centralised Services). Each of these service areas will be responsible for a team ranging from 110 to 600 FTE, for a budget of up to £35M excluding and contract responsibility of up to 84m.
The role will be required to lead a distributed operational team to deliver an exemplary service, across one of the 4 service areas to the MPS in accordance with the related contract/Service Standards. Although the key skills for these roles are transferable across all 4 services areas, which will add resilience, there will be some market knowledge and experience required for each specific area.
The Deputy Director for each service area will also ensure financial measures are met, while delivering internal & external service levels, to manage the business and exceed business plan metrics. The incumbent will identify, instigate and manage internal and customer driven change within their service area to ensure change is successfully/seamlessly introduced on time and to agreed budgets.
As a key leader within the management team, the Deputy Director will direct, lead and manage the operational delivery of the service line whilst also developing and nurturing excellent relationships with peers and key internal and external stakeholder groups.
The role will be based in Central London, with regular travel expected throughout the Metropolitan Police Service area.
Communications & Working Relationships
The role holder will have weekly contact with other Deputy Directors either by email/telephone in order to build good working relationships amongst their service line teams.
The role holder will be accountable to one of the MO11 Service Delivery Directors and be in contact with them via telephone/email on a daily basis and face to face on a monthly basis.
There will be a requirement for the role holder to work with and influence suppliers and lead formal governance meetings on a monthly basis.
The role holder will have meetings with the finance and HR business partners as required.
The Director will have to develop and maintain strategic relationships with:
Senior leaders in the Met including those responsible for transformation, quality standards, performance and criminal investigation across London in all business groups.Enabling functions including Communications, Finance, HR, Commercial, Legal and Digital Policing, to problem solve, integrate and collaborate to the benefit of operational policing and the wider MPS.Partners to the Met, including MOPAC and other forces, and understand changes in strategic direction or trends. In addition, Trade Unions and commercial supplier representatives.The role holder will be required to represent the MPS at a national level for their allocated service areas.

This role will impact on the delivery of operational support services to Operational officers and staff from across Frontline, Met Operations and Specialist Operations to ensure they are fully equipped to police London to the best of their ability and keep the public safe. They will do this by:
Delivering a 24/7 – 365 service to all areas of the MPS Developing and implementing change initiatives to improve service delivery to all operational officers and staff across the MPS Managing a complex contracts and supply chains for the relevant service area to optimise day to day services, ensure best value and innovation to improve. Each role holder will manage a minimum of 1 contract. Ensuring control of MPS spend against pay, supplies & services and contracts up to the value of £35m per annum. Generate income opportunities wherever possible impacting both MO11 and corporate finance budgets ranging from £500k to £12m Drive commercial discussions/negotiations to protect the MPS commercial interests whilst delivering a professional and effective service. Setting and managing a performance framework to enable the use of a data and intelligence led analytical approach to improve performance of service delivery Proactively engage with Transformation programmes to ensure that change outcomes both meet the needs of stakeholders and provide a platform to maximise operational efficiency throughout the contract lifetime of the service. Act as a point of escalation and aid the management of press and media related issues regarding the delivery of the service area. Owner of relevant organisational policies for each service area. Responsible for regular review and updates against organisational and legislative change.
