We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and passionate team member to join the Cumbria and Lancashire Analysis and Reporting Team. They will be a technical lead for water quality and ecological issues within Cumbria and Lancashire.The postholder will help deliver the team’s work programme which includes:• contribute to investigations into ecological and water quality failures. • freshwater invertebrate analysis to mixed taxon level• a variety of fieldwork including macrophyte, river habitat, invertebrate, transitional and coastal surveys and the collection of continuous water quality data• analysing, interpreting and reporting sometimes complex datasets of ecological, habitat, water chemistry and faecal bacteria data• helping to establish monitoring requirements for the Area’s local monitoring commission• involvement in high profile projects such as inland bathing waters • responding to pollution incidents to collect and then interpret ecological evidenceAs a senior member of the team you will be expected to be comfortable liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.You will have an office/laboratory base, but some homeworking will be permitted. You will also be expected to undertake fieldwork across the Cumbria and Lancashire area if required. You should also be willing to undertake specialist training where necessary. Educated to degree level or similar in a relevant discipline or have equivalent practical work experience, e.g. ecology, biology, water chemistryEssential skillsExpertise and practical experience of:• Manage relationships and successful liaison with internal and/or external stakeholders• Analysis, interpretation and reporting/communication of ecological data to produce clearly written reports suitable for the target audience• Good time management; the ability to deliver against deadlines and excellent computer skills• Contributing to a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture• A full driving licence is essential for this roleDesirable skills• Identification of invertebrates to mixed taxon level• Freshwater ecological survey work such as invertebrate, macrophyte, river habitat surveys• Experience of collecting, analysing, interpreting and reporting ecological evidence following pollution incidents (invertebrates)• Ability to analyse and interpret water chemistry and faecal bacteria data• A working knowledge of GIS
