We’re looking for a Field Monitoring Officer to help us deliver and collect quality environmental monitoring for National and Locally commissioned programmes. You'll take a range of samples including river water quality, effluents, bathing water, invertebrates, diatoms and groundwater boreholes.You will work towards qualifying as Officer In Charge for electric fishing surveys and will be involved in boat work, so experience of fieldwork and biosecurity good practice is essential. You will maintain, interpret and input into our different monitoring data systems. You'll lead on the ordering of sampling equipment and maintaining the bottle stores. You will be an effective communicator, liaising with site contacts, members of the public and internal customers. You will train and mentor other team members to ensure the quality and consistent delivery.The field work can be physically demanding and you will be required to sample in all weathers. You’ll be working alone for the majority of the time, so you’ll need to prioritise your Health, Safety and wellbeing, be self-motivated and organised.There will also be opportunity to support the Environment Agency’s Incident response. A full UK driving licence is essential for this role. The ability to train, mentor and develop staff on monitoring activities. Including instructing on the use of monitoring equipment, health, safety and wellbeing practices and the requirements of internal (users of the data) and external customers (site and landowners). Ability to maintain, interpret and input into key monitoring systems.Other key requirements for this job include • Field sample collection experience • Able to work independently as part of a dispersed team• Good organisational skills • Working in water confidently and safely• Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal customers• Required to use standard IT packages to deliver work as well as more specialised systems. • Experience of biosecurity procedures. • Experience of health, safety and wellbeing procedures including carrying out risk assessments of new sites.
