As a member of our Field Operations Team, you will be working on rivers and tidal defences to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution. You will be maintaining rivers and repairing our defences to provide a high standard of flood protection to our communities. You will be expected to work efficiently, safely and to a high standard often working within Construction, Design and Management (CDM) regulations. This hands-on role involves:• Working together as a team and being outside in all weathers• Using a variety of tools and equipment to complete tasks• Responding to flood and environmental incidents inside and outside of normal working hours by participating, training and exercising, deploying sandbags, temporary barriers, mobile pumps and pollution equipment• Producing dynamic risk management and unplanned risk management documentation• Carrying out regular checks and inspections of equipment, including tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), and vehicles.• Communicating with customers, landowners, partners, members of the public and colleagues • You should have the necessary practical ability and an understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands-on approach• An understanding of site health and safety requirements would be an advantage• Able to carry out tasks and answer queries effectively• Competent using IT devices, such as an iPad, and willing to learn our in-house systems• Undertake specialist training as and when required• Literacy and numeracy skills are required• Some experience in asset operation or maintenance/incident response/use of equipment/tools is an advantage, however full training will be provided. More important is having a positive “can do” attitude.
