We tackle the effects and causes of climate change, perhaps the most serious long-term threat to the environment that we face. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Team in Kent, South London and East Sussex as a fluvial geomorphologist. Working closely with our Geomorphology Technical Specialist you will help to protect, restore and enhance the natural environment. This role has a strong technical and practical focus. Principle accountabilities: Provide advice/guidance/training/technical tools supporting colleagues deliver improvements to the ecological status of our rivers in line with the Water Environment Regulations (formerly Water Framework Directive). Ensure that we prevent/minimise ecological impacts arising from our own activities and those of third parties that we regulate. Proactively engage across the business to help identify, design, and deliver a program of mitigation and restoration activities in surface waters. Work collaboratively to find innovative solutions delivering environmental outcomes and reducing long term in-river maintenance whilst improving or keeping flood risk constant. Improve understanding of geomorphological issues, and work to ensure that they are resolved. Educated to at least degree level or equivalent with significant geomorphology knowledge / experience. A good understanding of the requirements of the Water Environment Regulations, particularly the hydromorphology element, as well as its practical implications for the work the Environment Agency does. Understanding of river restoration techniques and/or Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management would be very desirable. Excellent organisational skills with the the confidence to work on your own initiative and as part of the team. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to influence and deliver results through others. Capable of prioritising and handling complex and busy workloads. A full driving licence.
