The Judicial College Strategy, Governance and Change team are looking for a proactive and dynamic individual to join them as their new Judicial Support Officer.
Our judiciary is internationally renowned and judicial education plays a vital role in securing its status as a world leader. Judicial training works to uphold the Rule of Law and support the administration of justice through a range of training for new and existing judges. It also makes an important contribution to enhancing public confidence in the justice system.
The Judicial College fulfils statutory judicial training responsibilities on behalf of the Lord Chief Justice, Senior President of Tribunals and Chief Coroner. In doing so, we deliver training for courts and tribunals judges, tribunal members, coroners and coroners’ officers, magistrates and legal advisers (collectively referred to as Judicial Office Holders). The College’s overriding objective is to provide training, resources and publications of the highest standard, thereby strengthening judicial office holders’ capacity to discharge their functions effectively.
The team plays a key role in supporting and monitoring the implementation of the objectives and aims outlined in the Judicial College Strategy 2021-2025, which was published last year and can be viewed here.
The Strategy, Governance and Change team sits as a centralised function supporting the senior leadership of the College (Executive Director and Directors of Training) with a focus on strategy implementation, governance, business support and change processes required to deliver the objectives of the College.
The role holder will work closely with the Directors of Training, to provide valuable assistance in their oversight of judicial training activities. This will include proactively monitoring trainer appointment terms in office to advise and support the Directors of Training in their decision making on trainer recruitment. The successful candidate will be our expert on judicial records management and appointment enquiries for the team.
The Judicial Support Officer will be responsible for the end to end practical arrangements required for judicial trainer recruitment campaigns, including the drafting of relevant correspondence on behalf of the Directors of Training. They will assist with the induction process for new trainers, ensure that the relevant systems are updated and build reliable networks with key stakeholders across England and Wales to support the work of the College.
In addition, this role will support wider team activity, including committee secretariat, official enquiries, briefing and report writing. The person will also have the opportunity to be involved in policy development on a range of issues related to judicial training and have a role in keeping the Judicial College website updated.
Key ResponsibilitiesManaging the end-to-end process for recruiting and appointing judicial trainers.Drafting letters on behalf of the judicial Directors of Training, as well as to official enquiries and correspondence.Maintaining appointment records and communicating updates.Developing relationships with judicial regional secretariats in England and Wales to update training team records and share information.Keeping our website up to date.Working alongside HEO Support Managers in their timely preparation of briefings.Providing support in the collation of contributions for meeting papers.Keeping the Directors of Training updated on all areas of College business.Assisting College committee secretariats in the preparation of/and follow up actions of committee meetings.Supporting the development and review of College policies.
