This is a significant and exciting opportunity to join the Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Area Team and make an important contribution to nature recovery on Goss Moor and across mid-Cornwall. Goss Moor is a 570 ha National Nature Reserve (NNR) in Cornwall, designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) due to the reserve’s range of habitats and species. Significant improvements have recently been made as part of the European Regional Development Fund Growing Goss Project and Goss Moor is part of the G7 Legacy Project for Nature Recovery.
You will be expected to have a visible presence at our Goss Moor NNR base where you will be expected to support delivery of management on our NNRs and work closely with our partners to develop resilient landscapes across the wider area. You will be accountable to both your Team Leader and the Area Team NNR Senior Adviser. You will work closely with the NNR Farm Manager, Reserve Managers, Visitor Warden, Apprentices and Volunteers who work on the Goss Moor NNR. You will have an important role in providing functional management to staff including Reserve Managers, Visitor Warden and Apprentices and will be expected to role model Natural England’s Ways of Working.
You will be responsible for revising and delivering management plans, working with other colleagues in the Area Team in developing a forward-looking integrated Goss Moor offer. You will need to be able to work flexibly, to plan and prioritise in response to a constant source of fast paced reactive tasks. You will need to be able to apply a broad range of knowledge and experience in the application of land management techniques to support the delivery of nature conservation across a wide variety of habitats and species across the NNR and connecting these with the wider landscape.
You will play an essential role in establishing strong working relationships with partners and stakeholders which identify and deliver opportunities for nature recovery both within the NNR and in the wider landscape of Mid Cornwall. You will be expected to contribute to wider protected sites delivery and partnership initiatives with key partners/stakeholders including the Tregothnan Estate, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, The Gaia Trust, Network Rail, Highways England, Imerys, local farmers and the surrounding community.

Engage with different user groups to better allow people to connect with nature, whilst ensuring that wildlife can flourish.Work with Land Agents to adhere to lease requirements.Support the reserve team to maintain and develop a positive and proactive Health and Safety culture.Support the NNR Senior Adviser to manage the financial aspects of the NNR budgets to ensure that all staff can use systems required to record spend accurately and to interpret the data accurately.Procure materials and services and provide contractor supervision.Deliver landscape scale conservation around the NNRs, working with and supporting colleagues on the delivery of favourable condition on SSSIs and the delivery of agri-environment schemes.Proactively seek new sources of income generation on the NNR.Develop and test new approaches for the NNR to engage with local communities, partners and stakeholders.How to Apply
