As a Lead Team Member, you will lead a small team on the ground delivering our maintenance program, which requires daily working on our river and coastal defences, to prevent and respond to flooding and pollution incidents. As part of our commitment to your development, the EA has an exciting range of training available.Leading your team to efficiently and safely carry out routine maintenance of our assets, this hands-on role is mostly field-based and involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. You'll participate in a wide range of activities, from cutting vegetation, to clearing debris and fallen trees, to operating mobile plant machinery repairing earth flood banks. You will drive our badged fleet vehicles, towing trailers with various mobile assets and equipment.As part of the role, you will be supplied and expected to use IT, mainly iPad applications to record and update progress.We act quickly when there’s an emergency such as flooding or pollution. You’ll be expected to actively be part of the out of hours standby duty rotas, responding to operate our assets such as water pumps, barriers, and flood gates.This role is currently available at Tickton, Pickering, Selby, and Rockingham Depots. Ideally you will have the following skills and personal qualities:•Ability to engage well with others•Being flexible and able to adapt to changing situations or demands of the job•Good communication skills which include contributing your ideas, listening to others and being clear and confident•Being confident to take the lead and put yourself/ideas forward•Able to think quickly and to solve problems and communicate your ideas clearly to others•Work as a team to support others•Organise and manage your time well•Cope well under pressure•You will hold a full UK or EU manual driving licence•You’ll have the energy to motivate, encourage and coach others in your team on site•Good level of practical skills such as plant machinery and power tool use, minor construction work, DIY, gardening or similar is desirable. However, an aptitude to learn is also welcome as full training will be provided.
