Job at SSE in Inverness, Highland Council

Join the Net Zero Revolution as a Linesperson in Scotland!

Are you a skilled and safety-conscious individual with a passion for maintaining critical infrastructure? SSEN Transmission, a vital part of SSE's ambitious vision for a net-zero future, is seeking dedicated Linespersons to join their Transmission Operations team. This is a significant opportunity to contribute to the UK's energy transition and build a rewarding career within a forward-thinking organization.

The Opportunity:

This permanent, full-time role is based in either Inverness or Elgin, offering a competitive salary range of £38,966 - £45,905, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. You'll play a crucial part in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of 132, 275, and 400kV Transmission overhead line networks across the entire Scotland region.

Key Responsibilities and Your Contribution:

  • Hands-on Technical Expertise: Directly engage in essential inspection, maintenance, and repair activities on high-voltage transmission lines.
  • Safety Champion: Uphold and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring your own safety and that of your colleagues at all times. This role demands a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Resilience and Adaptability: Be prepared to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions and respond to emergency situations, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Geographical Reach: While based in Inverness or Elgin, there will be occasional requirements to work away from your base location, including weekends. Comprehensive overnight accommodation and allowances will be provided, alongside participation in out-of-hours standby duties.

What Makes This Role a Career Advantage:

  • Impactful Work: Be at the forefront of upgrading the electricity grid to facilitate cleaner, homegrown energy and contribute directly to a net-zero future.
  • Professional Development: While an industry-recognised Overhead Lines (OHL) qualification and proven experience are advantageous, SSE is committed to providing essential training. This includes training for construction, maintenance overhead line activities, and in-depth knowledge of their systems and geography, making the role accessible to those eager to learn and grow.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Beyond a competitive salary, SSE offers a robust benefits package designed to support your financial, wellbeing, and family needs. This includes discounts on healthcare and gym memberships, 24/7 counselling services, interest-free loans for tech and transport, generous family entitlements like enhanced maternity and paternity pay, and much more.
  • Career Stability and Growth: SSE is a leading energy company with significant investment in homegrown energy, offering a stable and progressive career path.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: SSE champions an open and inclusive workplace, actively encouraging applications from individuals from all backgrounds and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive.

Key Considerations for Aspiring Candidates:

  • Safety First Mindset: A deep commitment to safety and the ability to challenge unsafe practices are paramount. You'll be expected to fully embed yourself in the company's safety culture.
  • Adaptability to Conditions: The nature of the work involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and responding to emergencies, requiring resilience and a flexible attitude.
  • Willingness to Travel: Occasional travel across Scotland is a requirement, and a full UK driving license is desirable or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Commitment to Learning: While prior experience is valued, SSE's investment in training means a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills is crucial for success.

This is an exceptional chance to join a company that is not only powering the nation but also actively building a sustainable future. If you're ready to take on a challenging and rewarding role that makes a real difference, we encourage you to apply.
