PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a scheme in which second year students run study sessions for first year students to help them access course material and become effective independent learners. The scheme is internationally established and is run in thousands of universities across 29 countries.
We are looking for students to be part of our growing PASS scheme here at the University of Sunderland. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to help us establish and develop a successful PASS scheme to benefit first year students. You will gain a range of transferable skills and experience and enhance your subject knowledge to help make you stand out to potential employers.
As a PASS leader you will be trained to plan and resource weekly hour-long sessions and attend regular debriefs with a PASS supervisor to evaluate the sessions and address any queries. You will also be expected to liaise with an academic co-ordinator to promote the scheme and provide feedback.
This is a paid role in line with National Living Wage; you are expected to be available for a minimum of 2.5 hours per week (1 hour planning time, 1 hour for delivery of the session and 30 minutes to attend a debrief) and additional training throughout the year. PASS delivery and training will all be held between 9-5 on weekdays during term time so you will need to be available at these times.
You will also be required to attend paid training sessions on 6th, 7th, and 8th September online, and 13th, 14th, 15th September on campus. There will also be occasional extra paid duties throughout the year such as supplementary training, freshers’ induction week introductions etc.
