£29,155 per annum, plus contributory pension scheme with shift allowance as appropriate.A variety of shifts covering the unit operating hours of 0700-2100 (2000hrs on Sunday) Options for office based hours are available – these do not attract a shift allowance.Strict police vetting will be conductedUnit – Assessment & Investigation Unit (AI)

Role purpose:

You will manage and progress the investigation of criminal offences and other incidents/enquiries working as an integral part of a mixed economy team of Police Officers and staff; complete investigative actions, maintain victim and witness confidence and facilitate successful outcomes. Successful outcomes may on occasion, require the preparation of case papers, ensuring file completeness/delivery in accordance with Court deadlines, legislation and Force policy.

Accountability:

Plan, co-ordinate and undertake investigations as tasked, utilising all available appropriate techniques and technologies to detect and reduce crime thereby bringing offenders to justicePlan and conduct the interviewing of victims, witnesses and potential suspects to identify further investigative opportunitiesPrioritise, analyse & interpret Intelligence/evidence of scenes, using knowledge of appropriate forensic techniques to optimise intelligence/detection opportunities as requiredSeize exhibits when required, ensuring they are handled according to current guidelines and policyEnsure recording and storage of intelligence to maintain continuity and evidential integrityDeliver a victim-centred service by engaging with, assessing and supporting victims to ensure investigations are concluded promptly in line with the Victims CodeIdentify appropriate outcomes on completion of an investigation, including Court or out of court disposals. Create prosecution files as required, ensuring that they are evidentially sound, compliant with current CPS requirements and within required timescalesComply with the Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act when conducting investigationsAttend all court hearings as required to give evidence, ensure welfare of victim and witnessesIdentify threat, harm, opportunity and risk within crimes, flagging and responding to safeguarding concerns during interactions with members of the public, in co-ordination with other departments / agencies.

Skills required to be successful.

Willingness to work towards and ability to achieve Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) 1 accreditationGood communication skills, in particular listening and questioning skills, with the ability to engage effectively and demonstrate empathy with and understanding of people from diverse communities and backgrounds, sometimes in potentially confrontational situationsMeticulous attention to detail, the ability to think logically and the ability to gather and record information effectivelyProblem solving and decision making skills with the ability to effectively analyse information and to identify and assess risk and vulnerability in order to set prioritiesExperience of working within a team environmentUnderstanding of cultural differences and experience of working in a diverse environment
