As a result of a team restructure vacancies have arisen within the Bedfordshire Police & Cambridgeshire & Hertfordshire Constabularies (BCH) collaborated ICT Dept for Mobile Communications Administrators (South) (Herts). These roles are based at the Welwyn Garden City Police HQ, Hertfordshire. The vacancies will entail working within a team based at the aforementioned site & across the collaborated Mobile Communications Team as a whole.

The Role: Reporting to the ICT Mobile Communications Team Leader (South) you will be a vital part of the team supporting the Collaborations Mobile Communications. In this role you will provide first line ICT support to mobile communications equipment end users and provide updates on progress of calls or obtain further information where required. Ensure that calls for service are dealt with promptly and recorded accurately. Where possible, provide a first-time resolution to the incident/service requests. In the main this equipment will include but is not restricted to, Airwave radios, Body worn video, and mobile telephony.

You will be required to work 37 hours a week between the hours of 8am till 5pm at the WGC HQ. Key responsibilities:

Provide initial assessment, repair and configuration of devices as required in order to rectify issues reported by users. Reconfigure or replace faulty equipment wherever possible and return faulty equipment to suppliers/maintainers for repair. This includes the collection of faulty equipment from designated points across BCH sites and the return of the repaired equipment. Record and maintain detailed and accurate reports of faults and actions taken. Provide advice to users over the telephone by email and in person.Proactively manage open calls and resolve where possible. Refer any issues which you cannot resolve to the Mobile Communications Engineers or your Team Leader.Under guidance from your Team Leader, assist the Mobile Communications Engineers to carry out Audits, software updates and configuration updates of issued equipment both personally issued and pooled as well as vehicle equipment where appropriate. This will include “on site” working across BCH, transporting and setting up of radio programming stations for the updating of terminal software in handheld and Vehicle radios.Ensure that the equipment is held by the registered user and that all software/configurations are up to date on the Asset Register. Proactively maintain knowledge and understanding of mobile communications faults whether hardware or software related, so that the correct guidance and advice can be offered to users or carry out effective resolution of incidents.

Entry Requirements:

2 years’ experience in an ICT environment.ITIL Foundation Certificate Desirable.Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Inc. Maths & English) or proven written and numeric skills.Proven ability to work within a team.Good computer literacy & keyboard and telephony skills.Must be highly motivated, innovative and flexible with excellent time management skills. Must be capable of good communications at all levels often dealing with complex ICT issues with non-ICT staff. Must be conversant and at ease with all forms of communications.Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision even when under pressure.Self-motivated and well organise

Any other General Requirements/Scope:

The post may require occasional working outside of normal office hours so flexibility will be required.Vetting required, as advised by the vetting unit.The post holder will be expected to undertake training as and when required.The post holder will be expected to comply with health and safety requirements.Following appropriate training, to take on the role of Evacuation Marshal if no volunteers come forward in the post holders work location.

Before commencement of this appointment, this role is subject to medical assessment. For some roles health screening or surveillance may be required on a regular basis, as identified by line manager risk assessments.There is a requirement for the role holder to meet the probationary objectives set.The ability to drive Force vehicles to perform the role.
