About the role

Here at Babcock Mission Systems, we are looking for a Principal Marine Systems Engineer to join our Engineering Team in Bristol to deliver advice, solve problems and maintain safety for Royal Naval Marine Engineers deployed around the globe. An opportunity has arisen to join our Engineering Team who deliver technical advice and support to the Royal Navy, specifically the Type 45 destroyer and the Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carrier. This role will also act as the focal point for business growth and transformation activity within Systems and Equipment Technical Services. The Principal Marine Systems Engineer role

In this role, you will provide technical leadership in support of engineering demands from the T45 and QEC community, answering technical queries and suggesting solutions to shortcomings in design and documentation. Additionally, you will be the lead co-ordinator in planning, supporting and delivering the technical aspects of the marine systems and equipment growth and transformation activity within the Support Value Stream. You will be working as part of a small, but highly effective team where the highest of standards will be expected from both a technical and behavioural perspective. The role reports to a Technical Support Manager and you will be given responsibility for the management of your own technical work packages.

An engineer able to apply systems thinking across a diverse range of marine systems equipment to transform complex problems into simple, elegant solutions and who is driven to make a positive impact on a daily basis.

What do I need to do the role? Experience

Experience in managing an engineering team. Experience of successfully delivering bids, from customer strategy, through PQQ and ITT. Experience of the engineering design, or support of, complex engineering systems or equipment, ideally Naval. A proven ability to work in a collaborative manner across a multi-disciplinary team and stakeholders. (Desirable) Experience in Operating, Maintaining, Diagnosing and Repairing (ODMR) complex warships.

An effective decision maker who can understand complex issues (balancing the detail and the big picture), using insight / evidence and their judgement to deliver great results in a timely manner Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to elicit customer requirements, understand the issues and develop technical recommendations A self-starter, who is performance driven with a desire to make significant contribution/impact. Is able to work independently and as an active team member

Competencies

Knowledge of systems engineering principles, their application to systems of systems and the management of system requirements with the ability to deploy best practice methods and tools when addressing any given problem. A broad understanding of the management of wider project considerations including programme, commercial and financial constraints An understanding of design intent and engineering governance, their application to the requirements of a project and the role of both legislative. requirements and internal management processes. Knowledge of safety and environmental engineering, both legislative and safety and engineering management processes.

Education and Qualifications

Degree qualified and a Chartered Engineer or having demonstrable equivalent experience.
