Salary: £42,149 - £44,706, with progression to £50,296 per annum

The Role

Newcastle University and Northumbrian Water Group are seeking an exceptional leader to undertake the role of Program Manager for a number of projects, including the FairWater project, working with a number of Faculties and Schools across the University and industrial partners. You will support the Principal Investigators and co-investigators in order to maximise research activity and impact across the activities of the OFWAT and OFGEM Programmes. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the project and will facilitate effective and productive interaction between the academic and industrial community and consortium.

You will be an experienced manager with a record of accomplishment in leading and delivering a range of projects within academic and commercial environments or similar complex organisations. You will have knowledge of project management tools and techniques.

This position is available on a full-time, fixed-term basis, to start immediately and is tenable for 4 years from start date. Key Accountabilities

Oversight of all projects within OFWAT and OFGEM Programmes Working closely with the Principal Investigators of the OFWAT and OFGEM Programmes and make management decisions as appropriate for the project. Ensure that the Principal Investigators are well informed and supported with respect to progress, management and future plans. Tailor management processes to the needs and preferences of the Principal Investigators and WP Leads Taking the lead on and have responsibility for managing compliance with contractual terms. This includes establishing additional personnel and procedural measures for the project. The Programme Manager will manage and run inductions and ongoing training for NU personnel participating in the project Working with the PI to take overall responsibility for project delivery; monitoring deliverables against plan and implementing any corrective actions where required, ensuring finance and sponsor regulations are met, prepare project reports, prepare project monitoring reports, organise workshops and conferences etc. Leading on the strategic direction of developing relationships for the University and University partner. In doing so, the Programme Manager will work closely and advise the Strategic Partnership Manager of the progress with the FairWater Project Leading on interactions with all participants, ensuring appropriate management and governance functions are undertaken. Compiling and presenting administrative, management and financial information at review meetings including Project Board (PB) meetings, Advisory Group (AG) meetings and meetings of the relevant Work Packages Groups/Subgroups. To coordinate a diary and compile agendas for these meetings. To take notes and distribute minutes of the meetings Negotiation with dispersed and very senior figures in the academic community and industry Financial reports: design, implement and monitor quarterly project financial reporting and periodic audit schedule, ensuring compliance with specific regulations, including also internal regular reports to the project team and University finance officers Activity reports: design, implement and monitor the research programme reporting, including regular reports to the project team Management of the project administrator including absence recording/monitoring, responsibility for PDR and development (in a 50% capacity). Supporting the University partner programme of mentoring and training of next generation sustainability professionals within the organization Lead on the implementation, delivery and monitoring of the Data Management Plan (DMP) with input from the academic leads and RAs Lead on the implementation of a robust framework for University ethics approval and compliance of the project activities, working with the University partner and NU project Directors Close liaison with relevant departments within the University especially the Business Development and Enterprise team responsible for partnership initiation and bid development, ensuring clear channels of communication Lead from a NCL perspective on securing any follow-on funding. You will be responsible for driving forward growth in future collaboration for the Project with partners. This will include further later stage bid development in conjunction with all partners, industry and internal support areas such as BDE Planning and organising own workload and if applicable that of other administrative staff within projects Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade as required to achieve the FairWater vision

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Ability to think strategically and to have oversight of large and complex projects across academic and/or industrial sectors Knowledge of the sector, operational capability and strategic objectives and understanding where and how the University can add value Knowledge of research funding and reporting requirements and Practices Experience of running projects including compliance, procedures, policies and systems Knowledge and understanding of University practices in relation to research management, innovation and partnership development Experience of managing complex projects to successful completion Analytical skills to manage and project budgets, manage and control risk, draw conclusions and make recommendations to the project team Extensive project management experience in a Higher Education and/or development environment Substantial experience of partnership working, and managing potentially conflicting priorities and different types of people Experience of working with very senior, key decision makers across sector Experience of financial reporting and budget management Experience of line managing Knowledge of project legacy planning, grant applications and business/bid development
