Salary: £43,704 to £47,380 plus a Location allowance of £1,639. You will receive £43,704 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £47,380 will be via incremental progression.

As a Technical Lead with SO15 Counter Terrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police Service this is a unique opportunity for you to get involved with helping to make London the safest global city in the world a time of unprecedented threat. Based at the new Counter Terrorism Operations Centre with the Forensic Management Team (FMT) you will work in a bespoke built environment alongside a dedicated specialist team responsible for CT crime scene and evidence management.
The post holder will be required to do the following:Be responsible for the technical operation of SO15 FMT operational staff. Undertake the role of technical manager in line with the requirements of ISO 17020, ensuring compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements.Carry out the role of Technical Manager as documented by the Quality Management System in line with the requirements of ISO 17020 and other international and regulatory standards; includes technical oversight of operational records/access/equipment/consumables, quality assurance procedures and document review.Act as a professional contact for FMT staff on all technical matters relating to the Quality Management System; work closely with the Operations Support Manager, Quality Manager and quality/accreditation representatives to ensure quality standards are maintained and developed according to industry and regulatory specifications.
The post holder will have the following key activities:Support the training, mentoring and competency process of all staff within FMT accreditation process, ensuring compliance with the Quality Management System, ISO17020, Forensic Science Regulator codes, ILAC-G19 and other relevant legislation. Provide evidence of ongoing staff competency on CT related examinations through quality control checks.Provide specialist technical support to the Operational Managers and quality representatives in the development, maintenance and auditing of the QMS. Support Operational Managers and quality representatives to prepare, host and complete findings arising from audits and other inspections.Carry out technical audits and lead on technical investigations to identify root causes of non-conformance; provide advice on immediate containment actions, agree corrective solutions and verification of effectiveness, ensuring issue reports are accurate, concise and closed within agreed timescales.Develop, implement and manage all validation and verification work, adhering to documented guidance as outlined by the Forensic Science Regulator, ISO Standard and any other relevant legislative requirements.Monitor and assess FMT staff conducting staff competency against agreed standards within the Quality Management System during live scene examinations, initiating corrective action where necessary. To conduct regular dip sampling of FMT Staff to ensure they are maintaining a high level of competency and provide corrective guidance if and when required.To assess and confirm the competency of Forensic Coordinators in their roles by conducting direct observational assessments and dip sampling providing corrective actions, if necessary, in line with the Quality Management System.To act as SPOC for UKAS Technical Assessors during ISO 17020 assessments.Represent SO15 FMT at national working groups in relation to accreditation and standards, providing presentations to a wide-ranging audience.To provide detailed technical expertise and advice on all accreditation related matters to all FMT staff.To liaise, advise and work with external consumable providers to ensure that products remain fit for purpose, raising identified issues and ensuring the consumables remain in line with the requirements of SO15 FMT staff.To support the design, implement, maintain and improve a quality management system (QMS) within the FMT to meet relevant standards (ISO 17020, ISO 17025, ISO 9001).
This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Developed Vetting (DV) level before taking up the post.
Additionally, this material is of particular sensitivity to the UK and its distribution must be restricted to UK nationals. In approved circumstances dual nationals (of which one element is British) may also be granted access. However, in the event that potential conflicts of interest cannot be managed the post holder will not be able to see the intelligence material and will not be able to perform their duties. For the purpose of safeguarding national security and in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002), applicants who do not hold or acquire Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) OR Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and meet the nationality requirements cannot be offered the post.
