We are looking for an experienced freshwater ecologist for the role of Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer to lead our large programme of local water resources environmental monitoring. You will be experienced in all aspects of freshwater ecology and water quality surveying along with macro-invertebrate analysis. You will be able to design and coordinate monitoring programmes to deliver data for evidence to manage the freshwater environment in relation to all our water resources work including permitting, drought and environmental planning. Your expertise in collating and interpreting freshwater ecological data through the use of appropriate applications and tools will provide accurate evidence and understanding to support environmental planning and decision making for positive environmental outcomes.You will work in a team contributing to the local water resource issues but will also feed in to our national hydroecology team linking local and national work to provide a consistent approach to water resource management. Extensive freshwater ecological field and desk-based experience is essential. You’ll be qualified to a higher education level in a relevant discipline and possess ability and/or knowledge of:- •All aspects of freshwater ecological survey work and techniques, including freshwater macro-invertebrates, macrophytes and River Habitat Surveying•Designing freshwater ecological monitoring programmes•Understanding of the environmental influences on freshwater ecosystems, in particular issues around water resources •Data analysis, modelling and interpretation using ecological and chemical metrics and indices for use in investigations and producing technical reports.•Leading and coordinating programmes of work •Excellent communication skills to disseminate shared learning with internal colleagues and external partners•Experience in training and mentoring for staff in all aspects of freshwater ecologyYou must possess a full driving licence and be able to swim confidently.
