Main Job Purpose:

The position, working as part of the Airports team, will be responsible for managing all aspects of maintenance & project delivery, with regard to safety, time, cost and quality, such that the airports programme of work is satisfactorily delivered to the client’s requirements. The Site Supervisor must have a sound understanding of cost and change management with respect to changes in site work. They must understand the need to balance; day to day project delivery, event / failure management and network planned maintenance i.e. are able to deliver all these project objectives without compromise.

The individual will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently, a good communicator with flexibility and an adaptable approach to problem solving is essential. This must include the development of a strong working relationship with the client.

The position will incorporate construction, with assistance to operation and maintenance and is a multi-site role. The function will be required to work on new and existing systems to ensure continuity of supply to customers during new systems installation or existing systems modernisation and some maintenance activities.

The position holder will work to ensure high standards of safety management throughout the team in all areas of their position’s responsibility in accordance with the UK Power Networks Services Stay Safe directive.

Principle Accountabilities:

Work with the Lead Operational Engineer to ensure that all programmes of work are delivered to time and budget in line with contractual commitments to time, cost and quality. Manage resources for individual projects identifying any changes needed (people and equipment). Adherence to Client and UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures Ensuring compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Services Health and Safety policies Ensuring the compliance with the Distribution Safety Rules during all activities. Developing site specific H,S & E procedures Put operatives to work making sure they understand the tasks and use a safe system of work. Ensure projects team staff attend Tool Box talks and receive relevant site inductions. Put staff to Work under a Safe System of Work, provide daily supervision of works on site, check Method Statements & Daily Point of Work Risk Assessments are in place Daily planning, co-ordination and real time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources for both directly employed staff and contractors. Ensure resource scheduling is up to date and that sufficient work is available at all times to maximise the utilisation of resources. In addition, improve the productivity of field staff and term contractors to ensure unit costs are improved. Management and supervision of the Airports Craft Team filling and managing their works schedules with 3 monthly look ahead, carry out regular site behavioural exchanges, boots on the ground site visits and see it sort it records. Liaise with engineers’/ Manager to ensure timely delivery of work packages and forward planning of resources. In addition, ensure that all hours reported through time sheets are accurate and representative of the job. Management of field staff working hours including overtime control and the administration of company incentive schemes in accordance with relevant policies. The post holder is expected to establish a process of continuous improvement through IPR reviews, the development of staff and the utilisation of new technology. He/she is also needs to ensure that staff comply with procedures, work to a high quality, and the removal of barriers to efficient delivery of work. Review and ensure competency levels maintained for both the team and self. Organise training to address any shortfall. Active supervision of all staff working on site and training of Apprentices Carry out site visits to survey planned works & liaise with Main Contractors. Preparing & submitting of Method Statements, Risk Assessments & COSHH Data Sheets for all works. Ability to read & interpret utility drawings Understanding operational and 1:500 diagrams LV Authorised Person with further possible progression to HV and SAP Use of appropriate IT equipment including SAP ‘Toughpads’, TDR, LV Faults sniffer and FFE equipment Undertake additional activities commensurate with the job level and competency Working unsocial hours when required to align with project programmes, responding to system faults and completion of maintenance activities. The post holder is expected to effectively lead a team to achieve a sustainable culture, company values and safety achieved by: Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures Demonstrating visible leadership by regular site visits Leading by example and demonstrating safe working practices and behaviours at all times Utilising effective communication and coaching skills to improve safety performance Monitoring the health and wellbeing of all staff at all times ensuring that control strategies for managing health hazards are complied with. The post holder is required to promote team working and monitor performance against agreed standards.

Nature and Scope

This position has been classified as a Specified Role and will be subject to pre-appointment drug screening in accordance with the UK Power Networks policy on “Alcohol & Drugs”.

The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of a team of technicians, jointers and fitters that report to the Lead Operational Engineer and have the support of experienced Field Engineers and Supervisors.

The role is predominantly based in the UK Power Networks Services area with work being undertaken on customer owned sites on a contractual basis. The successful candidate will also be required to travel and work anywhere within the UK on customer owned sites.

Skill and Educational Requirements

The following skills and attributes are important to this role:

Good understanding of electrical distribution and be familiar with organisational policies and procedures and ensure their effective implementation at local level. Experience of the Business from an operational and technical perspective Possess a strong understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are essential in delivering field work. Ideally, of a technical background; typically, from a Fitter/HV Jointer/Linesperson background. The position requires a strong inspirational and innovative leader to support the achievement of UK Power Networks’ targets and ambitions. The incumbent will either hold an Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) certificate in managing health and safety, or be willing to obtain this IOSH certificate within a timescale agreed with his/her manager. An understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are essential in delivering field work is required. Evidence of training, such as a CIS card, of a site supervisor and operative. UKPN Substation entry, LV and HV competencies desirable. Flexibility and able to work in a team environment. Ability to problem solve in a practical way. Able to work under pressure. Must have a clean driving licence and be able to complete and pass an Airside driving test. Ability to obtain a Client Infrastructure Security Passes (providing a traceable work history and criminal records check). Fit and willing to be trained to work in confined spaces as required
