Natural England has an important role in enabling local authorities and other plan-makers to embed nature into a range of place-based plans, and you will be central to shaping strong partnerships to drive this ambition.

We are advertising for the following roles

Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) – Senior Adviser (2 post)

1x Northumbria Area Team, Newcastle office

1x East Midlands, Lincoln/Nottingham office

A huge new opportunity to support ‘Responsible Authorities’ in the creation of these new nature recovery plans through, partnership working and collaborative approaches.

Based in our Northumbria Area Team you will prepare and support colleagues, Local Authorities and partners for the national roll out of LNRSs from April 2022 and develop relationships with significant partners, including statutory agencies, designated landscape authorities, planning authorities, environmental Non-Government Organisations (eNGOs), and bodies representing land managers and communities.

Nature Recovery Networks – Senior Adviser (1 post)

1x Northumbria Area Team, Newcastle office

The Nature Recovery Network (NRN) is central to our delivery as an organisation. Taking the step from protection into active restoration of the natural world to address the pressures facing biodiversity, climate, and public health. Delivery of the NRN crosses all work programmes within Natural England. It is central to Natural England’s vision of ‘thriving nature for people and planet’ and our mission of ‘building partnerships for nature’s recovery’.

We need candidates who enjoy working and collaborating with others and feel passionate about helping to shape improved outcomes for nature. You will work closely with local and national colleagues to maximise opportunities and synergies for nature and access to nature in a range of plans and strategies. The roles will be supported with a suite of learning and development activities.

You will need to be flexible and opportunistic in the role Natural England plays and be responsive to the needs of our local partners. It’s a fantastic opportunity to use your previous experience and any transferable skills to bring people and nature together in an inclusive and collaborative way, to help develop strategic approaches that ensure that people from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and diverse communities are able to experience the benefits of the natural environment.

Based in our Northumbria Area Team you will integrate and co-ordinate local strategic delivery of: LNRS, strategic spatial planning, green infrastructure, biodiversity net gain, protected sites, NNRs, agri-environment, inclusion, health & wellbeing, water, marine, protected landscape leads to understand opportunities for join up; issues; needs and how best these may be met (nationally and locally). You will test the needs of current NRN partnerships in terms of evidence, spatial data and guidance and look to identify opportunities for a mix of private and public sector support: blended finance.
