We are looking for a hydrogeologist who will work primarily on water resources to ensure effective management and protection of groundwater in the Solent and South Downs Area, which covers Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The hydrogeologists and hydrologists provide technical expertise and advice on a range of water resource management projects including Water Framework Directive, Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies, Restoring Sustainable Abstraction programme and determining water resources permits. This includes:• advising on the impacts of abstraction and development;• undertaking groundwater resource and pump test assessments; • advising on the groundwater extremes of drought and groundwater flooding;• delivery of our Water Framework Directive measures and investigations;• working with water companies on restoring sustainable abstraction projects;• supporting the management of our groundwater level network; • responding to customer enquiries and data requestsAll staff are supported to work towards professional qualifications and membership of professional bodies. •You’ll have a relevant degree or equivalent, ideally a further degree in hydrogeology or related subject and be able to demonstrate a strong water resources background.•You'll be a good communicator who can present convincing verbal and written arguments to a wide range of audiences, with the ability to simplify technical detail.•You'll be able to demonstrate good inter-personal skills with the ability to establish excellent working relationships with colleagues, internal teams, and external partners.•You’ll have a practical common-sense approach to problem solving and be able to articulate solutions in a simple, persuasive way.•Good computer skills are essential, including the use of spreadsheets, databases and geographic information systems (ArcGIS).•You’ll be able to produce/interpret data to develop evidence and solve technical issues.•You should be able to work well as part of a team and across different departments, but also work independently.•Full UK Driving Licence required.
