Initial Policing Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP) has now reopened route is now open and have a stream specifically for our Cadets looking to start their careers in policing.

About the Role

As a Police Constable in the Met, you get the chance to keep your city safe and make the capital a better place every day. It’s an immensely rewarding job that will put you at the heart of the communities that make London the city we all love. As a PC, you’ll have the opportunity to make a positive difference to the lives of Londoners every day; from building relationships with local communities, reducing crime, supporting victims and keeping people safe. You’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that what you do will make a real difference to the lives of all those around you and have a real impact on the Capital.

About You

It’s vital the Met Police reflects this vibrant, unique and ever-evolving capital. Which is why we’re looking for candidates from all backgrounds to join us. You’ll need the ability to earn trust and respect, and build positive relationships with all kinds of individuals.

What does the recruitment process involve?

Having attended regular careers evenings and had regular conversations with your coordinator about your career progression and PC opportunities, your VPC coordinator will need to endorse your application to become a PC before you submit it. If your application is not endorsed you can still apply via our external route on our website.

Once you have received the required endorsement, you will be provided with a bespoke link which will allow you apply and track your application.

Eligibility

You must hold a level 2 qualification in English Language at a GCSE grade C or above, or grades 4-9. If you do not have this qualification, we will also consider an English Language equivalent overseas qualification.

Once your eligibility is confirmed, you will be sent materials to prepare for the online assessment centre stage of the process. Here you’ll complete a number of exercises set in a policing context which will provide assessors with opportunities to evaluate you against our competencies and values framework, and it will provide you with further insight into the role of a police constable. Upon passing this stage, we will invite you to attend ‘Day Two’ that consists of role-play exercises as well as a health assessment. The health assessment includes a medical appointment; a fitness test; DNA samples; finger prints; a substance misuse test; and to submit your vetting form (if required).

What’s next?

Once your pre-employment checks are complete, and you've completed your notice period with your current employer (as applicable), you’ll become a police constable! From there, you’ll start your operational and classroom led apprenticeship training.

Pay

You’ll start with a salary package of circa £30k inclusive of allowances.
