We are the Environment Agency, we improve the quality of our water, land, and air by addressing pollution and work with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional individual to join our Kent and South London Area Waste Team. You will • Provide leadership across the area waste regulatory teams, ensuring the waste industry complies with permit conditions/other legal requirements to protect the environment and communities • Promote our work priorities across all Waste teams, ensuring officers are following a risk-based approach. • Work with our teams of Environment Officers using evidence/intelligence and management information to set work priorities/monitor performance and ensure delivery against targets.• Show technical leadership, taking a lead on key areas, providing advice and guidance to both internal and external customers • Oversee a range of technical compliance activities, including auditing, across a number of waste sectors, which could include biowaste, non-hazardous treatment, hazardous waste or managing amenity issues such as noise and dust. You will use your influencing skills to improve compliance at our poor performing sites.• Mentor/coach staff on policies, procedures, and techniques equipping them with the knowledge and skills to deliver their work • Proven understanding and regulatory experience of delivering and securing environmental compliance, outcomes, and improvements, under the relevant legislative regime• Proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator, used to influencing and negotiating to deliver environmental compliance and outcomes• Able to demonstrate practical operational experience and sound knowledge of waste regulation• Demonstrate experience of coaching and mentoring others• Strong interpersonal and team-working skills to ensure we deliver with internal and external partners• Experience of communicating complex technical information with clarity to customers and colleagues • To work as part of a team, sharing skills and experience to deliver the best outcomes for the environment• A full UK driving licence is preferred.As a Category 1 responder under the Civil Contingencies Act, our staff hold a variety of incident management roles, including taking part in rostered standby for out of hours incident response.
