Discover more about our company wide benefits and life at GSK on our webpage Life at GSK | GSK Analytical Chemist – Mass Spectrometry 12-month Fixed-Term Contract / Secondment Job Purpose We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Analytical Chemist with expertise in Mass Spectrometry (MS) to join the Analytical Chemistry team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role will focus on the operation and support of MS-based analytical platforms, with a strong emphasis on oligonucleotide analysis and high-throughput small molecule analytical workflows. The successful candidate will act as a subject-matter expert supporting multiple stakeholder groups, ensuring robust, high-quality data generation, interpretation, and instrument performance. In this role you will Deliver expert mass spectrometry support to chemists, including data investigation, interpretation, and execution of supplementary experiments as needed Maintain the operation of high throughput MS workflows and reporting systems, including RapidFire and LC-Charged Aerosol Detector-MS platforms Oversee daily operation and maintenance of High Resolution TOF/QTOF MS systems. Diagnose and resolve technical issues with mass spectrometry instrumentation and analytical methods. Ensure routine maintenance and calibration of mass spectrometry instruments to ensure data accuracy and reliability. Analyse and document experimental results, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to key stakeholders. Provide timely updates to chemists on issues affecting operations, such as instrument downtime and data quality concerns. Collaborate with the Informatics team to provide analytical insights on data quality and interpretation. Support implementation and application of QTOF instrumentation for oligonucleotide analysis. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines and GSK quality standards. Why you? Basic Qualifications & Skills: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: BSc in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, with hands-on mass spectrometry experience. Strong understanding of MS principles, including ionisation, fragmentation, and data interpretation. Experience with oligonucleotide analysis by mass spectrometry. Experience using MS data analysis software and reporting tools. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex analytical and instrumentation issues. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging diverse scientific stakeholders. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Please note the following skills are not necessary, just preferred, if you do not have them, please still apply: PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline, or MSc with significant relevant experience. Extensive hands-on experience with TOF/QTOF mass spectrometers. Familiarity with LC, UPLC, and RapidFire-based workflows. Experience working in high-throughput or open-access analytical environments.
