Archiving Intern – 12month Fixed-Term
This role is ideal for a recent graduate or a professional returning to the workforce with a passion for archiving and cataloguing. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and preserving our extensive collection of historical documents, plans, and photographs across all our UK sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Archiving and Preservation: Organise, catalogue, and preserve historical documents, plans, and photographs. Document Management: Implement and maintain an efficient document management system. Site Coordination: Coordinate archiving activities across multiple sites in the UK. Digital Archiving: Assist in the digitisation of physical documents to ensure long-term preservation. Research and Retrieval: Support research requests by retrieving and providing access to archived materials. Compliance: Ensure all archiving activities comply with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
Skills
Essential:
Degree in History, Library Science, Information Management, or a related field. Previous experience in archiving, document management, or a related role. Strong organisational and cataloguing skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in using archiving software and digital tools. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Passion for preserving historical documents. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Willingness to travel to various sites across the UK.Desirable:
Experience in a similar role within a historical or heritage organisation. Knowledge of conservation techniques and practices. Enthusiasm for history and heritage.
