We are seeking a proactive and technically strong finance professional currently employed by the University of Brighton to provide expertise in all aspects of financial planning and analysis. With demonstrable experience of leading teams which provide robust financial assessments, reporting, and monitoring, helping to inform strategic decision-making at all levels of the organisation, and with outstanding leadership skills, the successful candidate will have a key strategic role within our finance department.
The Role
Lead and develop the Financial Planning & Analysis team, comprising Finance Business Partners, Accountants, and Finance Specialists, providing effective and efficient utilisation of financial resources, and ensuring the teams provide outstanding support to stakeholders.Advising the CFO and Deputy Director of Finance, UEB, and other senior leaders on technical financial matters relating to budgets, forecasts, and monthly reporting.Influence senior stakeholders to ensure all necessary action is taken for the University to achieve its long-term financial goals.Deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance as required.Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA). Experience of financial management in a higher education setting will be beneficial.Strong knowledge of the principles of financial and management accounting.Demonstrable experience of leading teams responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual monitoring and reporting.Lead on development of financial modelling to support 5-year financial position forecasts.Ability to interpret, reconcile, and explain complex financial information from a variety of sources such as Excel and report writing tools, ensuring reporting is appropriate to stakeholders.Ensure the structures and processes in the University Finance System are maintained to ensure robust reporting that facilitates financial accountability and enables strategic decision-making.Experience of working collaboratively with diverse teams using strong inter-personal skills, providing support to colleagues through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.A commitment to continuous improvement, fostering a communal and cooperative environment.For full details of the role, and the skills and abilities required, please see the attached job description and person specification.
