Technical Director

Job at GlaxoSmithKline in Greater London, WC1A

Technical Director, Supply Chain - Shape the Future of HIV Therapeutics at ViiV Healthcare

Are you a seasoned technical leader with a passion for driving innovation in pharmaceutical development and supply chain strategy? ViiV Healthcare, a company exclusively dedicated to advancing the fight against HIV, is seeking an experienced and visionary Technical Director to join our dynamic Supply Chain team. Reporting directly to the Technical Head, this pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact the development and delivery of life-changing HIV therapies.

Opportunity Overview:

As a Technical Director at ViiV Healthcare, you will be at the forefront of shaping our pharmaceutical development and supply chain strategies across a diverse and evolving pipeline. This includes overseeing Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) and product development from early discovery through to commercial products. You will be instrumental in guiding the development of novel technologies, particularly for long-acting small molecule and biologics-based products, and advanced delivery systems. Your expertise will ensure seamless integration and alignment between our discovery, clinical, medical, manufacturing, and commercial functions, driving ViiV's strategic vision forward.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Impactful Mission: Join a company singularly focused on eradicating HIV. Your work will directly contribute to a world where no person living with HIV is left behind, a powerful motivator for career fulfillment.
  • Cutting-Edge Development: Play a crucial role in shaping technology development for innovative delivery methods, including self-administration devices for long-acting injectables, and explore emerging areas like biologics.
  • Strategic Influence: Influence the entire product lifecycle from discovery to commercialization, including New Product Introductions (NPIs) and the integration of externally acquired assets.
  • Global Collaboration: Work with a global network of internal teams (GSK R&D and Supply Chain) and external partners, including Contract Research Organizations (CROs), Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs), and generic pharma companies.
  • Broad Technical Scope: Gain hands-on experience and provide expert oversight for a variety of dosage forms, including oral solid dose (OSD), parenteral, and biologic assets, supporting strategic manufacturing projects.
  • Career Growth & Development: Leverage the extensive resources and proud history of GSK, benefiting from a comprehensive employee benefits package and opportunities for professional growth within a leading pharmaceutical organization.
  • Inclusive Environment: Become part of a truly inclusive culture that champions diversity, where every individual is empowered to bring their authentic selves to work, fostering a stronger team and driving innovation.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Leadership in Technical Excellence: This role demands proven leadership experience in drug product formulation and development within a major pharmaceutical company. You will be responsible for providing scientific and technical direction to a portfolio of assets.
  • Cross-Functional Mastery: Success in this position requires adept cross-functional project management and matrix leadership skills to navigate complex development and manufacturing landscapes.
  • External Partnership Management: A significant aspect of this role involves directly managing relationships with external partners, including localization of manufacturing and supporting generic product development, requiring strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Regulatory Acumen: A robust understanding of CMC regulatory requirements for both clinical and commercial manufacturing is essential for this position.
  • Strategic and Analytical Thinking: Candidates should possess excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills to effectively address challenges and opportunities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: The ability to stay at the forefront of pharmaceutical product development, engaging with industry, academia, and NGOs, is crucial for driving continuous innovation.
  • Diverse Technical Background: While a strong foundation in OSD and/or sterile product development is required, experience in Biopharm/large molecule product development is a preferred asset, reflecting the evolving nature of the pipeline.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven and experienced technical leader to make a profound difference in the lives of people affected by HIV. If you are ready to lead, innovate, and contribute to a world free from HIV, we encourage you to explore this exciting role.
