Technical Director, Supply Chain – Shaping the Future of HIV Pharmaceutical Development

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and visionary Technical Director to join ViiV Healthcare’s dynamic Supply Chain team. Reporting directly to the Technical Head, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of pharmaceutical development and supply chain strategy, with a profound impact on ViiV’s mission to leave no person living with HIV behind.

ViiV Healthcare, the only pharmaceutical company solely dedicated to combating, preventing, and eradicating HIV and AIDS, offers a unique and purpose-driven environment. As a joint venture of GSK and Pfizer, with Shionogi joining later, ViiV fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration, drawing on the rich history and resources of its parent companies.

The Opportunity:

As Technical Director, you will provide critical scientific and technical leadership across ViiV's diverse pipeline, from early discovery through to commercial products. Your responsibilities will encompass New Product Introductions (NPIs) and the integration of externally acquired assets. A key focus will be driving technology development to support ViiV's strategic vision, particularly in areas like long-acting small molecule and biologics-based products, and advanced delivery technologies.

You will be the linchpin ensuring seamless alignment between discovery, clinical, medical, manufacturing, and commercial functions. This role demands a strong ability to provide scientific and technical oversight for development services delivered by GSK R&D and Supply Chain, alongside direct management of relationships with Contract Research and Manufacturing Organizations (CROs/CMOs) and generic pharma partners.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Impactful Mission: Be part of an organization with a singular, powerful purpose: to end the HIV epidemic. Your work will directly contribute to improving the lives of millions affected by HIV.
  • Strategic Influence: Play a pivotal role in shaping ViiV's product development and supply chain strategy, influencing key decisions from early-stage development to commercial launch.
  • Diverse Pipeline Exposure: Gain broad experience across a varied portfolio, including small molecules, biologics, and innovative delivery systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Thrive in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with global teams and external partners, honing your matrix leadership skills.
  • Innovation & Technology Focus: Drive the development of cutting-edge technologies, including self-administration devices for long-acting injectables, positioning you at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation.
  • Global Reach & External Partnerships: Manage key relationships with CROs/CMOs and generic pharma partners, providing invaluable experience in global supply chain operations and strategic alliances.
  • Career Growth & Development: As part of GSK, you will benefit from extensive employee benefits and opportunities for continuous learning and professional development.
  • Inclusive Culture: ViiV Healthcare is committed to fostering an inclusive culture where diversity is celebrated, and everyone feels valued, welcomed, and empowered to be their authentic selves.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Scientific & Technical Depth: This role requires a robust scientific and technical foundation in drug product formulation and development, with strong expertise in oral solid dose (OSD) and/or sterile product development.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership experience within a major pharmaceutical company is essential, demonstrating your ability to guide teams and projects effectively.
  • Strategic & Analytical Acumen: Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and decision-making skills will be crucial for navigating complex challenges and driving successful outcomes.
  • CMC Regulatory Understanding: A solid understanding of CMC regulatory requirements is vital for ensuring compliance and successful product progression.
  • Experience with External Partners: The ability to effectively manage and collaborate with CROs/CMOs and international third parties will be a significant advantage.
  • Adaptability & Problem-Solving: Given the dynamic nature of pharmaceutical development and supply chains, strong problem-solving skills and adaptability are key.
  • Industry Engagement: A proactive approach to engaging with industry trends, academia, and NGOs will ensure you remain at the cutting edge of pharmaceutical product development.

This is more than just a job; it’s a chance to make a tangible difference in the fight against HIV. If you are a driven, experienced technical leader looking for a role with significant impact and a rewarding career path, we encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity at ViiV Healthcare.
