This is an airline where you’ll be able to make a real impact from the moment you join us.

The Role: Deputy Safety & Security Manager

The Deputy Safety and Security Manager (DSSM) reports directly to the Safety and Security Manager. This role contributes to the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective Safety Management System (SMS) and Security Management System (SeMS), including Flight Data Monitoring (FDM), Safety, Security, and Fatigue Risk Management (FRM) for the BA Euroflyer operation.

The DSSM works closely across all areas of BA Euroflyer, supporting a strong safety and security culture. This role manages and oversees the Airline Security Programme (ASP) and deputises for the Safety and Security Manager (AvSEC Directed Person), as required by the Department for Transport (DfT) regulations and in other safety and security matters.

What You’ll Do

Act as the Safety and Security Manager during any periods of absence.

Deputise for the Safety and Security Manager across all safety and security matters.

Coordinate the Safety Team, manage performance, set and monitor targets, and oversee rostering.

Manage the SMS on behalf of the company and ensure departmental investigations are completed and findings entered into the management system (covering flight, ground, engineering, health & safety, fatigue, and external events).

Monitor and analyse safety data and trends from FDM and SMS systems.

Develop and maintain the safety reporting system to support continuous improvement, including reporting to the Accountable Manager, Safety Action Group (SAG), and Safety and Compliance Review Board (SCRB).

Lead investigations into serious incidents and report findings in line with company procedures.

Produce reports for the Safety Action Group and SCRB.

Create and distribute safety promotion materials.

Liaise with national aviation bodies and regulators (e.g. AAIB, CAA, DfT, UKFSC, UKAB, BATA, BA, and NATS).

Work with British Airways, BA CityFlyer, and IAG airlines to share safety data and best practices.

Develop links with non-group airlines to exchange safety information and participate in relevant working groups.

Ensure all structural excedances identified via flight data are promptly raised with Engineering.

Provide training, coaching, and expertise on risk assessments to nominated persons and key stakeholders.

Coordinate and develop the company’s Fatigue Risk Management processes.

Offer flexible support to maintain the effectiveness and integrity of the safety system.

Undertake additional project work as required by the business.

Your Experience

Proven experience in identifying key safety and security issues and developing appropriate strategies.

Experience in developing and maintaining UK CAA (or former EU) approved airline security programmes.

Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with regulatory authorities to ensure BA Euroflyer is seen as a proactive, best-practice organisation.

Strong understanding of FDM analysis, including regulatory requirements, confidentiality agreements, and union arrangements.

Experience in managing and developing a Fatigue Risk Management System.

Deep understanding of Just Culture principles and Human Factors.
