The Humber Authorities Calibration Service is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to undertake calibration duties within our test centre and collect, drive and operate our weighbridge test unit as required. The Weighbridge Unit is stored at Market Weighton. This unique and challenging post is offered on a fixed term basis for up to 2 years on either a full or part time basis, however it is hoped that as part of succession planning this post may become permanent in the future.
The role of the post holder will be to undertake the full range of tasks relating to the receipt, preparation, inspection, calibration and verification of weighing and measuring equipment at our Calibration Test Centre base in Hull. Calibration is undertaken to a precise accuracy within our purpose build calibration test centre. The successful post applicant must be willing to undertake all tasks.
The post holder will be responsible for operating the Weighbridge Test unit, providing cover for our current driver. This includes conducting on-site accuracy assessments of weighbridges in collaboration with private sector engineers and Trading Standards Officers. The specifically designed articulated unit can carry up to 20 calibrated one tonne block weights and forklift truck. When required, operating under a DVLA weight exemption, the unit can weigh up to 48 tonne and is used to inspect and test weighbridges across the Humber region and the UK.The postholder must be prepared to travel around the country on a regular basis to meet the needs of national contracts; occasional overnight stays are required.
Applicants will hold a full driving licence category C and E (formerly HGV1 & HGV2) along with up-to-date CPC. They will also hold or have the ability to attain an accredited training certificate for the operation of a B1 (5,000kg) counterbalance forklift. Training will be considered for the right applicant to be completed within 6 months of appointment. Basic ICT and administration skills would also be an advantage.There will also be a requirement for this post holder to work additional days from time to time to cover demand for the weighbridge test unit and to cover leave and any sickness of the other Weighbridge Test Unit Driver.Applicants should note that the post requires the repeated manual handling of heavy equipment up to 20kg in weight, therefore candidates must have a level of fitness to undertake the requirements of the role as well as a passion for driving.
The successful candidate must have good attention to detail, be willing and have the ability to undertake in house training to gain the necessary skills to carry out the more technical tasks.
You should have basic IT, English and maths skills and the ability to work on your own initiative and represent the Humber Partnership in the company of external hirers. We anticipate that this will be a sought-after role and the ideal application should provide full details of how they meet the employee specification and essential requirements of the post including driving and education qualifications with a full job history explaining relevant experience of driving HGVs, forklifts, calibration experience, computer and attention to detail.

The unit can operate across the UK and the post holder must be flexible and willing to extend days as required, with the occasional weekend working and overnight stops. Time off in Lieu, overtime, subsistence, and overnight allowances will be paid in appropriate circumstances.
Travel to Market Weighton is required to pick up the Weighbridge Test Unit and calibration duties will be undertaken by the postholder at the Calibration Test Centre based on the outskirts of Hull.
