This is more than just a driving job; it's a chance to be part of an organization that plays a significant role in the UK's economy, handling approximately a quarter of the nation's seaborne trade. ABP is committed to innovation and growth, offering a stable yet exciting environment for ambitious individuals.

Key Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Make a Tangible Impact: Contribute directly to the smooth operation of critical national trade infrastructure. Your work will have a direct and visible effect.
  • Career Growth and Development: ABP prioritizes talent development. You'll benefit from an in-house training academy, support for further education, and opportunities for internal movement and progression. This is a company that invests in its people.
  • Inclusive and Supportive Culture: Experience a workplace that actively fosters diversity and inclusion, where every individual is respected and encouraged to be themselves. This is complemented by dedicated management and leadership support.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Role Responsibilities: The core of this role involves daily cargo handling, efficiently moving vehicles on and off vessels, and ensuring secure stowing and lashing. You will be accountable for vehicle driving, maintaining high health and safety standards, and upholding quality and manufacturer requirements.
  • Flexibility is Key: This role requires a flexible approach due to an annualised hours system and the nature of port operations. The shift pattern involves an 8-day cycle with 5 working days and 3 days off. While structured to ensure rest, shifts can be up to 12 hours and may include night work. Provisional shift times are communicated with final confirmation closer to the start, and adjustments may occur with a minimum of 4 hours' notice.
  • Essential Skills and Qualifications: A full, clean driving license is paramount. Experience in vehicle lashing and securing, vehicle handling, and operating a forklift truck are key requirements. Previous experience in a manual-based role will be advantageous.
  • Commitment to Safety: Safety is ABP's number one priority. A strong emphasis on Health & Safety practices is integral to all operations.
  • Pre-employment Checks: Please be aware that all successful candidates will undergo pre-employment screening, including substance abuse screening (with a zero-tolerance policy), a medical examination, and Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance.
