Following the retirement of the previous post holder a vacancy has arisen for the position of Sexton at Anlaby Cemetery.
This is a highly important role which requires a person with a sympathetic and approachable disposition as you will be required to represent the Council at burials and to assist with visitor enquiries. You will work closely with funeral directors with the responsibility for checking the certificate of burial is correctly completed prior to internments taking place.
Your duties will include the marking out of the correct burial plots and assisting with the preparation of graves. You will also be responsible for undertaking routine grounds maintenance work of the cemetery. This will include grass mowing, strimming around memorials and the pruning of the perimeter hedgerows. You must also ensure the cemetery is kept in a tidy and well-maintained condition and that visitors remain respectful of the site rules.
Ideally, we are looking for applicants who have previously worked in a cemetery performing a similar role or have experience of carrying out grounds maintenance work.
