Job Description Component Design Engineer Full time Derby/Hybrid What you will be doing An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Component Design Engineer to join the team within the Global Mechanical Systems Capability function, based in Derby. As a Component Design Engineer, you will create engineering solutions that satisfy functional and physical requirements symptomatic of Product System and Sub-System level environments. Crucially, the engineered solutions must exhibit robustness for manufacturing capability. You will be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of component design definition artefacts i.e. documents, models, definitions that meet system level and sub-system requirements. The Component Design Engineer will participate within an IPT described by Product Lifecycle System (PLS) and operate in accordance with applicable Rolls-Royce Management System (RRMS) policies and processes. As a Component Design Engineer, you will also be responsible for sub-system integration of the technical activities for their design solutions and enabling lifecycle profitability through the Supply Chain Design. Responsibilities Deliver new component designs and design changes within the APQP Process, which includes (but is not limited to) creating design concepts, optimizing concepts to a final definition, preparing technical presentations and documents, supporting creation of drawings, delivering hardware for validation, and release of hardware to the field. Support the supply chain in procuring hardware from multiple suppliers including concession consultation and execution of Drawing Alteration Requests (DARs). Provide engineering support of service and/or development related hardware issues including Engine Investigations (EI) and Technical Variance (TV) consultation. Develop and specify component design requirements in accordance with module, system, and customer interface requirements. Address manufacturing, assembly, in-field, and aftermarket issues as they arise. Participate in or lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) teams. Why Rolls-Royce? Bachelor degree or master in engineering or regional equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience. Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies and understand cross-discipline engineering concepts which include but are not limited to manufacturing engineering, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, thermal and mechanical analysis, cost engineering and product definition. An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions across technical and business parameters. Knowledge and experience of product integrity / liability and certification frameworks. Membership of a relevant professional body appropriate to region. In the UK - attained/ working towards Chartered status is preferred (and equivalent regional variations). Good communication and presentation skills at all levels of the organisation.
