Job Description JR6125517 â Control Systems Engineer â Platform Optimisation Full time Bristol/Derby/Solihull Hybrid Rolls-Royce is looking for a Control Systems Engineer to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on flagship Rolls-Royce programs and play a vital role in solving some of the most complex and interesting technological challenges in the industry while being part of a global, multi-disciplinary team. This is an opportunity for a Control Systems Engineer to join the âMission Critical, Health Monitoring and Platform Optimisationâ delivery team, and take ownership of the âPlatform Optimisationâ Product System on behalf of group Engineering, Technology & Safety. Ideal for a highly motivated individual, this role is a focal point responsible for integrating multiple technology development strands across the group with potential for application across the Civil Aerospace, Defence and Power Systems businesses, by developing control schemes which extend beyond the usual powerplant scope to optimise across multiple sub-systems in different scenarios in order to provide new value at platform level. They will also play a key role in driving on time delivery and quality of the optimisation solutions and the artefacts associated with their design, verification and validation, while collaborating with Engineers across multiple disciplines, research partners and the supply chain. Key Accountabilities - Performs detailed performance analyses and trade studies of future controls and monitoring and platform optimisation systems. - Elicit and define the high level requirements for Platform Optimisation functionality, and develop concept solutions (functional architectures) to meet these requirements. - Analyses the system concepts for functional behaviour, which may include modelling and simulation to demonstrate that the design meets the high level requirements. Develops and reviews system tests that will provide evidence to demonstrate that the system requirements have been satisfied. - Work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to secure funding and shape R&T work packages covering Health Monitoring & Platform Optimisation technology. Key Experiences and Qualifications - Engineering degree(s) from a relevant discipline. - Demonstrable depth of knowledge and experience in Control Systems Engineering, with a working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines (software, electronics, system security). - Working knowledge of Health Monitoring and/or Platform Optimisation domain, and the associated system architecture, software and/or hardware architecture, software and hardware development process constraints, and verification vehicles and strategies. - Able to conduct appropriate research, being outward focussed and able to seek solutions/information from outside of immediate area, including suppliers, universities, customers, related industries - Familiar with developing model-based systems and software with digital engineering toolsets (MATLAB, Simulink and/or similar), requirements management and lifecycle / workflow management tools, e.g. DOORS, Azure DevOps, etc. - Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. - Strong problem solving skills, and an ability to understand the level of analysis required. - Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, able to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
