Embark on a rewarding career path as a Customer Delivery Driver with Waitrose & Partners, a cornerstone of the UK's largest employee-owned business. This role offers a unique blend of frontline customer interaction and essential operational support, allowing you to embody the Waitrose ethos of passionate Partners serving food lovers.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out?

  • Be the Face of Quality: You'll be directly responsible for delivering the renowned quality of Waitrose produce to customers' homes, acting as a brand ambassador and providing an exceptional Partner-led service.
  • Beyond the Wheel: This role isn't solely about driving. You'll contribute to the smooth running of the shop by assisting with vital tasks like stock replenishment and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, fostering a sense of teamwork and shared responsibility.
  • Attractive Compensation: The role offers a competitive hourly rate of £13.39. For those working during specific overnight hours (22:00 - 06:00), a valuable Night Premium of £3.50 per hour is an additional benefit, recognizing the demands of this shift.
  • Employee Ownership & Rewards: As a Partner in the John Lewis Partnership, you are a co-owner. This means you share in the responsibilities, successes, and rewards of one of the UK's most respected businesses. This unique ownership model fosters a strong sense of belonging and shared purpose.
  • Flexible Working Options: The Partnership is committed to supporting a healthy work-life balance. While this role is part-time (15 hours per week) with varied hours including weekends and evenings, discussions about flexible or compressed hours, job sharing, or shorter contract options are encouraged with the hiring manager during the interview process.

Key Responsibilities and Skills for Success

As a Customer Delivery Driver, your day will involve:

  • Route Planning and Execution: Efficiently checking and managing your delivery routes for the day to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
  • Vehicle Preparedness: Loading and preparing your delivery van, ensuring all orders are correctly packed, and conducting essential vehicle safety checks to maintain compliance and safety standards.
  • Exceptional Customer Service: Being a welcoming and trustworthy point of contact for customers, helping them with their shopping and building positive relationships.
  • Team Collaboration: Supporting your colleagues with general shopkeeping duties when needed, demonstrating a proactive and adaptable approach.

To thrive in this role, you'll need:

  • A full, valid UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • The physical capability to manage the demands of the role, including lifting crates and moving cages.
  • The ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Basic IT literacy for route planning and communication.

Previous experience in a driving role or with chilled vehicles is a desirable asset but not essential.

A Note on Vetting and Application

Please be aware that some roles within the Partnership may be subject to pre-employment vetting, which could include DBS checks. You will be informed if this applies to this role during the recruitment process. Early application is recommended, as vacancies can close once a sufficient number of applications are received.

This Customer Delivery Driver position presents an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a dynamic role that combines customer service excellence with operational contribution within a supportive and employee-owned environment. If you are passionate about delivering quality and embodying a service-driven ethos, we encourage you to explore this exciting prospect.
