Job at John Lewis Partnership in Speke, Merseyside

This review is for the Installation Specialist role at the John Lewis Partnership, based at the Speke Customer Delivery Hub. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to combine their passion for hands-on work with exceptional customer service, all within a unique employee-owned business structure.

The Opportunity:

As an Installation Specialist, you will be the face of John Lewis, directly interacting with customers in their homes. This isn't just a delivery role; it's about bringing the John Lewis experience to life by expertly installing a range of beloved products, from furniture and kitchen appliances to sophisticated sound and television systems. Working as part of a two-person delivery crew, you'll be responsible for ensuring a seamless and positive experience for every customer, embodying the brand's commitment to quality and service.

Key Advantages for Candidates:

  • Tangible Impact: You'll directly contribute to customer satisfaction by ensuring their new purchases are perfectly installed and they understand how to use them. This role offers a strong sense of accomplishment.
  • Career Development: John Lewis is committed to supporting your growth. While prior installation experience is required, the company offers its own installer accreditation, providing a structured path to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Attractive Compensation and Premiums: The role offers a competitive annual salary range of £29,000.00 - £39,600.00. For those joining from October 5th, 2025, there's an additional benefit of an Evening Premium (£3.00/hour for 18:00-22:00) and a Night Premium (£4.00/hour for 22:00-06:00), offering increased earning potential for flexible working hours.
  • Unique Ownership Culture: As part of the John Lewis Partnership, you'll be a co-owner. This means you share in the company's success and have a voice in its direction, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose rarely found in other organizations.
  • Structured Work Pattern: The full-time role involves 41 hours per week over 4 days, typically between Monday and Saturday (06:00 - 17:00). This offers a predictable schedule for better work-life balance.
  • Supportive Team Environment: You'll work within a 2-person crew and collaborate with warehouse teams, promoting teamwork and shared responsibility.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Physical Demands: This role involves significant physical activity, including heavy lifting. You will be handling large and often bulky items such as sofas, white goods, and beds. Candidates should be prepared for the physical nature of the work.
  • Customer-Facing Skills: Excellent customer service and communication skills are paramount. You'll need to be personable, respectful of customers' homes, and adept at resolving unexpected situations with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Driving Proficiency: A valid Manual C1 UK driving licence (with a maximum of 6 points), DCPC, and a Tachograph Card are essential. Previous experience driving a 7.5-tonne vehicle is also required.
  • Technical Aptitude: Staying current with new products and technologies is part of the role. A good understanding of technology will be beneficial for efficient installation and customer demonstrations.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to handle unexpected situations and find the best possible solutions for customers is a critical aspect of this position.
  • Commitment to Safety: Maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and your colleague is a key responsibility.
  • Pre-Employment Vetting: Be aware that some roles may be subject to pre-employment vetting, which could include DBS checks.

For individuals who thrive on providing exceptional service, enjoy hands-on work, and are looking for a career within a truly unique and rewarding employee-owned business, the Installation Specialist role at John Lewis presents a compelling opportunity. It's a chance to be an integral part of a brand that values its people and its customers, offering both stability and the potential for rewarding growth.
