Working in Manufacturing at JLR, you'll be the hands-on expert who brings innovation to life. You'll collaborate with a team of expert technicians and problem-solvers and use cutting-edge tools, facilities, and processes engineered together to build era-defining vehicles that people across the world know and love. Your expertise will directly impact the shaping of modern luxury. Together, let’s create the exceptional.

At JLR, we are redefining the future of manufacturing through advanced simulation and digital engineering. Our Manufacturing Engineering team is seeking a Principal Virtual Discrete Event Simulation (DES) Engineer to lead the development and delivery of simulation models that optimise vehicle and system programmes from concept through to production.

This is a high-impact role where you’ll guide the strategic use of simulation to improve performance, reduce cost, and enhance efficiency across our manufacturing systems.

WHAT TO EXPECT

As the lead DES engineer, you will be responsible for modelling and optimising complex production systems, managing a team of simulation engineers, and ensuring that all programme objectives are met from concept to JOB1 + 90 days. You’ll work cross-functionally with design, engineering, and operations teams to deliver robust, data-driven solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading the development of detailed DES models to simulate and optimise manufacturing systems, including throughput, bottlenecks, and sequencing. Managing and mentoring a team of engineers, ensuring quality outputs, technical growth, and positive team wellbeing. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation insights into design and operational decisions. Driving continuous improvement by applying lean tools, capturing best practices, and enhancing simulation capabilities. Delivering clear, data-backed presentations and dashboards to stakeholders and senior leadership.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Proven experience in Discrete Event Simulation, including tools such as Twinn Witness or Siemens Technomatix Plant Simulation. Strong background in production process flow simulation and bottleneck analysis, with a track record of solving complex technical challenges. Demonstrated ability to deliver simulation projects aligned to programme KPIs and operational targets. Effective communicator who can clearly convey complex ideas and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. A collaborative team leader who supports and develops others, while enabling fast, aligned decision-making with integrity and resilience.

We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs.

Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome. If you’re unsure that you meet the full criteria of a role – but you're interested in where it could take you – we still encourage you to apply. We believe in people's ability to grow and develop within their role – it’s what makes living the exceptional with soul possible.

JLR is committed to equal opportunity for all.
