Key Considerations for Potential Candidates:

  • Legislative Expertise: A strong understanding of UK and Scottish environmental legislation, regulations, and best practices is essential. Familiarity with SEPA guidance is particularly important.
  • ISO 14001 Proficiency: Proven experience in managing, maintaining, and auditing an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System is a core requirement. Holding an Auditor/Lead Auditor qualification is highly desirable.
  • Incident Investigation Skills: The ability to effectively investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and implement robust preventative measures is critical.
  • Influencing & Communication: As an advisor and coach, strong interpersonal, influencing, and excellent communication skills are vital to effectively engage with employees and contractors across the site.
  • Analytical Acumen: Candidates should possess strong analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate it into practical, impactful solutions.
  • Sector Experience: While not strictly mandatory, experience in heavy engineering, shipbuilding/repair, oil & gas, manufacturing, or waste sectors would be beneficial, particularly regarding broader health & safety exposure.
  • Security Clearance: This role requires the successful candidate to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Candidates should be aware of the eligibility requirements related to nationality, place of birth, and residency.
  • Qualifications: A Level 3 or Level 5 Environmental Management qualification (e.g., NEBOSH or equivalent) is required.
