This post is part the Estate Development Team, who deliver a challenging portfolio or projects through effective planning & implementation each year across an estate comprising Tutorial, Commercial and Student Residence spaces.
About the role
Working in a small, but committed team of Project Managers, the ideal candidate can look forward to delivering a range of projects, including refurbishment, maintenance and engineering, from a value of £10,000 to £2,000,000 on our vast and varied estate. The role requires the delivery of projects from inception through to completion, including the following core tasks:
Identify stakeholders and implement communication plans.Identify professional appointments needed, appoint design team and agreeing scope of work.Appoint suitable contractors.Ensure roles and duties under CDM Regulations are upheld.Obtain statutory approvals.Select suitable contract / terms of engagement and administer accordingly.Report on the project in line with the university’s reporting template, including risk identification and management.Chair design, pre-start and progress meetings.Control the project budget.Manage the interface between university activities and the construction works.Carry out key stage inspections to establish the standard for of the work and ensure that the works are aligned with the specification.Complete handover process in line with both contractual mechanisms, as well as internal procedures.This role is part of the Estates department out of hours rota, providing a first response to urgent estates related issues, which occur outside the normal operating hours. On call rates will apply and be discussed at interview.
About You
We are looking for a creative Project Manager who is experience in delivering exciting student environments to join a progressive Estates department. The role requires somebody who can work both independently, as well as a part of a team, to deliver projects from initial inception, through to design, construction, and completion.
You will be highly motivated, diligent and be able to demonstrate an outstanding level of Project Management skills acquired across multi-faceted organisations. You will have an in-depth knowledge and experience of construction project management, preferably within the Higher Education sector.
A customer service ethos which matches the University’s values and behaviours is essential; outstanding communication, persuasion and influencing skills are a must, as is a drive for continuous improvement and a determination for excellence.
You will demonstrate an ability and genuine interest in keeping abreast of the external environment with regards to relevant construction industry and higher education developments.
You will have a minimum of HND in a relevant discipline and have excellent organisational, IT and project management skills.
