MHE Technician (Weekday Shift) - Corby Distribution Centre

This full-time, permanent MHE Technician role at our Corby Distribution Centre presents a fantastic opportunity for skilled individuals to play a critical part in the smooth operation of a high-volume, global logistics network. As an MHE Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and maximum uptime of our Mechanical Handling Equipment, which is vital to RS's daily shipping of over 60,000 parcels.

If you thrive in a dynamic, time-critical environment and possess a strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, this position offers a challenging yet rewarding career path. This role is ideal for someone looking to make a tangible impact on operational success and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Advantages for Potential Candidates:

  • Critical Role in a Global Operation: You will be directly contributing to the success of RS Group's expansive 24/7 global operations, ensuring the efficient flow of goods through a busy distribution centre.
  • Hands-On Technical Expertise: This position offers extensive "cradle-to-grave" responsibility for a wide range of Mechanical Handling Equipment, including cranes and forklift trucks, allowing you to hone and expand your technical skills.
  • Continuous Improvement Focus: You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with management on developing and implementing continuous improvement ideas and projects, fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency.
  • Ownership and Initiative: The role encourages you to take ownership of workshop activities, including spares management, procedure improvement, and supplier liaison, demonstrating your proactive approach.
  • Professional Development and Mentoring: RS Group is committed to investing in your development. You will have the opportunity to coach, train, and mentor others within the Facilities department, sharing your expertise and best practices.
  • Commitment to ESG: RS Group's strong focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives means you'll be part of an organisation dedicated to doing the right thing and building a better world.
  • Structured Work Pattern: A weekday shift pattern provides a predictable work schedule, allowing for better work-life balance.

Key Considerations for Your Career Path:

  • Technical Foundation: A recognized trade apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience is essential. Your expertise in forklift truck and crane maintenance, along with a strong understanding of basic electronics, industrial electrical applications, pneumatics, and hydraulics, will be paramount.
  • Problem-Solving Prowess: The ability to swiftly respond to operational issues, diagnose faults, and implement effective repairs under pressure is crucial. A proven track record of fault-finding is highly valued.
  • Safety First Mentality: Adherence to Health & Safety guidelines, policies, and legislation is non-negotiable. Experience with PUWER assessments and a commitment to working safely at height are important.
  • Organizational Skills: Balancing and prioritizing your workload across multiple locations, managing spares, and coordinating with operators and managers will require excellent self-management and planning abilities.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication with all levels of the business, particularly with Operations, Facilities, and Projects teams, is vital for success.
  • Adaptability in a Fast-Paced Environment: Experience in time-critical distribution, operational, or manufacturing settings is beneficial, as you'll be working within a demanding and dynamic environment.
  • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) systems will be necessary for efficient record-keeping and planning.

This MHE Technician role offers a significant opportunity for growth and contribution within a reputable and forward-thinking organisation. If you are a highly skilled and motivated technician looking to advance your career in a challenging and supportive environment, we encourage you to explore this exciting possibility.
