The job itself

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the council’s Food Services team as a Food / Trading Standards Officer based in Goole with blended working arrangements which will include a mixture of working from the office and from home, as well as frontline visits.

We are looking for an officer with significant experience of Food Standards and Feed Hygiene inspections, sampling and enforcement. Whilst this position is equivalent to that of a Trading Standards Officer competent to deliver official food controls, it is open to any suitably experienced candidate with the comparable qualification and capacity to fulfil the competency framework requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice.

The main areas of responsibility will include the enforcement of food standards legislation across a range of food businesses including caterers, retailers and manufacturers. The role also includes the enforcement of feed hygiene legislation, the investigation of complaints and advising food and feed businesses. You will also support officers within the team and deputise for your line manager in their absence.

Professionalism and the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals are essential. Naturally a successful candidate will need to demonstrate they are well organised and have good communication skills. The post holder is also required to have full driving licence.
