Full Stack Engineer

Join Barclays as a Full Stack Engineerand play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing software that delivers essential business, platform, and technology capabilities to our customers and colleagues. We're seeking engineers with a solid backend foundation, ideally complemented by frontend experience. You'll join one of three newly established UK-based feature teams, driving forward critical Business Banking initiatives for 2025 and beyond.

To be successful in this role, you will need the following:

Proven experience working as a software engineer in a professional setting.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. You can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and provide as well as receive clear, constructive feedback.Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle, including source control, CI/CD processes, and industry best practices.Comfortable working in an Agile environment, and you actively use retrospectives and team discussions to drive continuous improvement.In-depth understanding of operational readiness, including monitoring, alerting, and observability practices.

Other highly valued skills include:

Proficiency in Java, particularly with Spring Boot.Experience developing and running production loads in the cloud, ideally with AWS.Familiarity with source control tools such as Git.Experience with React.

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

The successful candidate can either be based inLuke Street, London or Radbroke Hall, Knutsford.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organizations technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness.
