Are you a hands-on problem solver with a knack for fixing things? Do you take pride in keeping properties well-maintained, safe, and compliant? If so, we want YOU to join our dedicated Field Operations team as a General Operative!

Serco provides vital accommodation and support services for people while their asylum claim is being processed. Managing a substantial property portfolio, we are heavily invested in improving the quality standards of our properties to ensure asylum seekers in our care are comfortable and have access to the services they require.

Since 2012, we have been providing housing and support for asylum seekers in the community in the UK, ensuring safety and respect for some of the most vulnerable people in society while they await news on their immigration status. With over 7,000 properties in our portfolio, it is our duty to ensure all accommodation is safe, habitable, and in accordance with the Decent Homes Standard.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a General Operative, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that properties within your designated area remain in top condition. Working closely with our Housing Teams, you will deliver outstanding service by:

Carrying out general maintenance and repairs to ensure properties are fit for purpose.

Identifying and reporting faults using the AORA IT system, ensuring issues are logged and resolved promptly.

Maintaining compliance with health & safety regulations, including risk assessments and property inspections.

Performing furniture repairs, garden maintenance, and ensuring properties meet contractual standards.

Managing materials, tools, and waste disposal efficiently and sustainably.

Providing essential support to stakeholders, including landlords, local authorities, and the Home Office.

Being part of an on-call roster for out-of-hours emergencies to deliver a 24/7 maintenance service.

What We’re Looking For:

We are seeking proactive, detail-oriented individuals with the following:

General DIY and maintenance experience.

A valid UK driver’s license (essential).

Willingness to travel within the region and occasionally across the UK.

CRB Clearance and Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) Security Clearance (we’ll assist with this process).

A commitment to providing high-quality service and ensuring compliance with Home Office contracts.
