The Role
The Global Opportunities team is responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of international experiences for students during their time at Newcastle, ensuring a high-quality University experience. Based within the Careers Service, and wider Student Success unit, the team supports all students to access global experiences and work towards a positive graduate outcome.
We are looking for a motivated Global Experience Adviser to join our team.
You will be part of a team of Global Advisers responsible for developing and delivering year and semester study abroad placements, short-term work experience, internships and summer schools, working closely with students, external partners and colleagues to ensure an excellent student experience is always at the forefront and that a global experience is available to all Newcastle University students. The role may require occasional out of hours/ evening work and international travel.
The position is offered on a full-time basis (37 hours per week) and allows for blended working, with our office based at City Campus in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Key Accountabilities
Lead on the creation, management, delivery and growth of global experience opportunities and work with/support colleagues across the team and university where needed Have operational oversight of the relevant budgets allocated to support global experience opportunities and be responsible for tracking and overseeing expenditure and income for your lead area, ensuring compliance with relevant funding streams such as the Turing Scheme Keep up to date on sector practice, legislation, opportunities and stakeholder trends through range of methods as appropriate. E.g. Partner meetings, research, networks, conferences Develop, implement and maintain processes and systems to support global experiences focusing on your lead area. E.g. student applications, partner due diligence, grant allocations, safe mobility procedures Gather, maintain and report upon a range of data, for evaluation, impact measures and promotion. Act on feedback, produce examples of best practice, and develop knowledge to ensure compliance with legislation and guidelines Proactively market and promote global experience opportunities to students, externals and colleagues across the University with the aim of increasing awareness and engagement and keep web content up to date for all stakeholders Provide exceptional customer service to key stakeholders through advice and guidance for students, building rapport with all stakeholders as appropriate for each setting, and acting as safe and approachable first point of contact for issues arising, feedback or further opportunities Provide line management of colleagues where needed, to ensure effective performance Deliver recruitment and supervision of assistants/students. Acting as a mentor, offering support, feedback and training Work with colleagues across Student Success to ensure design and delivery of our provision considers the needs and requirements of designated groups of students (e.g., students with additional needs, international students, Early Career Researchers, or Degree Apprentices) Undertake any other duties reasonably requested in the delivery of the Careers Service’s strategic objectives including occasional out of hours/evening work and occasional international travel

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Experience of working with students, ideally in Higher Education Awareness and understanding of practices, policies and issues relating to international student mobility and global education Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders Experience working in a customer-focused environment Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy Excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise a complex workload and working to tight deadlines Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate – in both verbal and written communications to a wide range of audiences, including across different cultural backgrounds Good problem solving with ability to use initiative and to make independent decisions Strong IT skills including a proficiency in Microsoft Office

Qualifications
A degree or equivalent level qualification in any subject or substantial relevant work experience
