Job at University of Nottingham in Nottingham, Nottingham, NG7

This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new role working across our archival, museum and rare printed collections. Manuscripts and Special Collections has recently secured Research England, Museums, Galleries and Collections funding in recognition of the important contribution that our collections make to research. You will play an integral role in delivering the aims of the funding, working to increase usage of the collections.

You will work with academics, students and the public to increase their awareness and usage of the collections held by Manuscripts and Special Collections, including the University of Nottingham Museum. You will establish effective partnerships and ways of working to ensure that collections are embedded in research projects. You will also deliver teaching for students, including students from other universities, and to adult learners.

You will have experience of university research processes and the research environment, including an understanding of the requirements of the Research Excellence Framework. You will have experience of collections-based research, ideally with either archival, archaeological or rare printed collections. You will be a dynamic and creative individual who is confident at working under their own initiative to develop and shape this new role. Developing effective relationships with academics and community researchers will be a key strength of yours.

You will share UoN Libraries’ core values of respect, appreciation, ownership and curiosity.

You will have a higher degree or experience of working in a research role in the Higher Education sector. An archival, museum, library or archaeology qualification, or equivalent experience, would be an advantage but is not essential.

So what’s in it for you? You will be working with unique and fascinating collections, helping to bring them to the attention of a wider audience and ensuring that their potential is realised. Manuscripts and Special Collections is part of the University of Nottingham Libraries. We hold over 3.5 million archival items and 80,000 printed items in the special collections. The University of Nottingham Museum is part of Manuscripts and Special Collections and holds a collection of mainly regional archaeology covering a 250,000 year period. This includes everyday artefacts and bulk archaeology. We are an accredited archive and museum service.

You will divide your time between our University Park campus, where the University of Nottingham Museum is located, and our King’s Meadow campus, home to Manuscripts and Special Collections. Some home working will also be possible.

As a university employee you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including access to fitness and health facilities, staff discounts and travel schemes, along with 30 days’ holiday allowance (plus additional university closure days) and a highly attractive pension scheme.

The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract until 31 July 2029.Informal enquiries may be addressed to Hayley Cotterill, tel: 0115 951 4563 or email Hayley.Cotterill@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
