KTP Associate (Finisher) for digital-based CDM Compliance Checking in Highways Engineering

This KTP project aims to create a digital-based Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Compliance Checking system, to improve the delivery of the CDM 2015 Regulations, health and safety performance and information management of infrastructure engineering design in the construction industry. You will be taking over the project management and development of the CDM Compliance Checking software tool from the incumbent KTP Associate.

Wellbeing, Health and Safety (WH&S) is a key issue in construction, which is recognised as a high-risk industry. The project will digitise engineering (highways) design WH&S rule and code compliance checking, document checking, document production and software integration to maximise the benefits of BIM. 

The key benefits of this KTP to the business include both commercial and societal benefits: 

More effective transfer of WH&S data between stakeholders in the construction process due to digital checking and development of common terminology and data structures Reduced costs in construction e.g., improved sharing of information across teams, less design changes on site, reduced design staff time and reduction in re-work. Improved site WH&S reducing injury / fatality levels and enhanced compliance (less errors) with the codes. 

The project will also enable increased digitalisation in the construction industry, building on transformations already in place with the introduction of BIM and other concepts (e.g., Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Digital Twins) and using digital information management processes to gain efficiencies in the design and construction processes. 

This role is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a degree or awaiting a degree at (high level 2.1 or above) in either Engineering, Surveying, Architecture and Built Environment, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Economy or Management related disciplines with a good understanding of digital technologies, digital application development processes, requirement capturing and analysis, and management and IT systems in the Built Environment. Preferably a postgraduate or graduate with an understanding of BIM, process improvement and digital construction.

Candidate Profile: A degree or awaiting degree (high level 2.1 or above) in either Engineering, Surveying, Architecture and Built Environment, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Economy or Management related disciplines. 

Key skills required include:

Knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and digital constructionAnalytical problem solving and basic statisticsUnderstanding of databases and database management Knowledge of modelling data for efficient transmission and distributed storage.

Experience: 

Essential:

Development of digital applications. Design and/or construction management.Work in a commercial environment (including placement year).

Desirable 

Requirement capturing and analysis. Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) RegulationsRisk and WH&S management. Background knowledge of business particularly in the Built Environment would be an advantage. Experience in working cross-functionally, communicating persuasively and regularly is highly desirable.

Personal attributes:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proactive attitude to cope with the typical day-to-day challenges encountered in working in a technology-based industry, finding original solutions that will be crucial to deliver the project with the necessary high levels of innovationWork independently on own initiative as and when required with excellent time management skills.Project management skills either in an academic or industrial environment are desirableSelf-motivated and confident with good persuasion and negotiation skills.  Fit in with the organisational culture and present a positive image of the company to clients.

Location: You will predominantly be based in company offices in Manchester, but can be home based with links to Arcadis Consulting (UK) in Birmingham and the facilities at Aston University in central Birmingham. Limited travel to key clients may also be required.
