The Department of Chemical Engineering is looking for an enthusiastic and collaborative part-time Lecturer (Education) in Chemical Engineering (0.6 full time equivalent) to help facilitate the education of our students. Our degree courses in chemical engineering and environmental engineering prepare our students to tackle the global challenges we face, such as climate change, and the delivery of sustainable water, energy, food and wellbeing. You will be passionate about educating the next generation of chemical engineers and able to teach across the breadth and depth of our chemical engineering programmes including chemical engineering design and process simulation. 

The Department of Chemical Engineering is internationally renowned and is consistently ranked in the top 10 of UK league tables for Chemical Engineering, enabling us to attract high quality staff and students. We have achieved excellent results in the National Student Survey over a number of years and the University currently has a triple Gold award in the UK wide Teaching Excellence Framework (https://www.bath.ac.uk/announcements/university-of-bath-awarded-triple-gold-in-the-teaching-excellence-framework-2023/ ).

At Bath we offer an exceptional environment for teaching and learning and you will join the Centre of Excellence in Engineering & Design Education (CEEDE). The teaching and learning environment within the Department includes a range of teaching methods including lecturing, small group tutorials, placement visits, and preparation of online learning resources. Our class sizes range from ~140 students in year 1 – year 3 to ~20 students in some of our final year optional units. You might be expected to be an academic advisor to some students as part of the role and you will be responsible for assessment of elements of our programmes. 

Underpinning these activities is an ongoing commitment to continuing professional development and scholarship. Should you not already hold a formal teaching qualification, you will be supported by the University through our Higher Education Academy accredited teaching development programme. 

This role is offered on a part-time, fixed term basis of 36 months.

Application Requirements & Selection Process

Together with a full CV, please provide a two-page statement outlining your teaching vision and your commitment to EDI. Please outline your areas of teaching expertise and how you see yourself contributing to teaching across the entire breadth and depth of core (bio)chemical engineering in our undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees. Your commitment to EDI should include an outline how you have promoted or implemented EDI in your workplace. and how you embed this in your daily activities especially when working with and training undergraduate students. This document is a mandatory component of the selection process without which we will be unable to progress your application.
