To realise our ambitions, we are seeking forward-thinking, reflective, and practice-informed individuals to join us and help shape the future of education at UEL.

About Us

The School of Childhood and Social Care brings together expertise from psychology, education, social work, counselling, and social care to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, enrich the student experience, and strengthen community engagement. The school plays a key role within the Stratford Health Campus, supporting professional education, applied research, and practice-based learning.

Within the School, the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care delivers a well-established portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate counselling programmes, many of which are professionally accredited and strongly connected to clinical practice and employability.

About the Job

We are seeking a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Counselling to contribute to teaching, research, clinical supervision, and academic leadership across our undergraduate and postgraduate counselling provision.

The post holder will contribute to the academic, professional, research, and administrative activities of the Counselling Cluster within the Department of Social Work, Counselling and Social Care, and, where appropriate, across the wider School. The role includes module leadership, teaching across a range of counselling-related subjects, assessment and feedback, supervision of student research projects, and participation in admissions, recruitment, and academic administration.

Teaching will be delivered primarily face-to-face at our Stratford Campus, with some online delivery as required. The role also involves providing high-quality clinical supervision and supporting students to integrate theory, research, and professional practice in line with BACP and other relevant professional standards.

The post holder will be expected to engage in scholarly activity and contribute to the continued development and growth of the counselling portfolio, as well as to the wider research culture of the Department and School.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, student-focused academic and practitioner who is passionate about counselling education, clinical practice, and widening participation in higher education.

You will hold a BACP-accredited postgraduate qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy and/or Counselling and Coaching and be qualified to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will be registered with a relevant professional body (preferably BACP), ideally accredited or eligible to apply for accreditation.

You will be able to demonstrate significant experience of counselling practice, alongside experience of teaching and/or training in higher education or a comparable professional context. Experience of clinical supervision, research supervision, module leadership, and curriculum development is highly desirable, as is a strong commitment to scholarly activity and professional development.

You will bring excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills, and a clear commitment to inclusive, ethical, and reflective practice. An understanding of, and commitment to, supporting diverse student cohorts and working flexibly (including occasional evenings and Saturdays) is essential.
