Job at University of Greenwich in Greater London, SE10

Based within the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences on the World Heritage site at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, you will be part of the Centre for Safety, Resilience and Protective Security (CSRPS) which is part of our M34Impact programme. Joining the Expanding Excellence in England (E3) funded, M34Impact programme you will contribute to tackling major societal challenges affecting the environment, quality of life, safety, security, and the economy. In this role you will specifically strengthen and contribute to the Safety and Security (S&S) theme of the M34Impact programme, which is led by CSRPS.

The successful candidate will have a capacity to conduct high quality research in multiple and coupled challenges in the following research areas: fire and combustion modelling, dynamic coupling of fire and evacuation modelling, modelling of chemical and pathogen dispersal and the use of Virtual/Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence techniques in fire applications. In its nature, the role involves a highly collegiate approach and close collaboration with the other CSRPS and M34Impact staff. You will also be expected to utilise or support the development and enhancement of our fire modelling suite of software, and its deployment on the university HPC & GPU based system.

The position is primarily research and enterprise, but there would be a contribution of up to 20% to teaching, including development and delivery of a fire modelling focussed Masters course and PhD student supervision.

You will have a PhD in a related field and have experience in conducting research in a relevant subject, and a strong track record of publication in peer reviewed, international journals. A demonstrable track record of successful grant acquisition as PI or Co-Investigator is highly desirable. You will also be expected to generate and to maintain, strong stakeholder relationships at regional, national and international level. Applications for both part-time and full-time positions are welcome. For an informal discussion about the post please contact Professor Edwin Galea, Director for CSRPS and Lead for the Safety and Security theme of the M34Impact programme.
